David states:
"John Moir gave several weeks notice."
Yes officially John Moir gave over a month's notice
but the fact of the matter is that most people saw the
handwriting on the wall last spring when Mr. Moir went
very public with his concerns about TIF and the city's
indebtedness reaching
i have been giving considerable thought to riverfront
development for many years. I remember in '69 when a
friend from Virginia passed through Minneapolis to

I have not read "pulse" yet this week. I am looking

Why am I not surprised that Joe Biernat forwarded
letters to the police? I've watched him in committee
countless times and I find him the smarmiest person in
city hall.
I spent some time looking at campaign contributions to

just a question I want to toss out for people's brains
to work over. it relates to the some of the things
talked about vis a vis the library referendum but has
wider implications for city governance, property taxes

there was an article in today's strib by dan wascoe

additional one cent hotel tax to increase their

I've just begun reading some of the postings about
ballot design, etc. i'm certain as i read more i will
find things with which i agree and disagree. i do
think it is too early in the game to guillotine ms
kiffmeyer.
i was fortunate (and unfortunate) enough to have acted
as election judge in a
i would agree with all of what m. hohman from the 13th
ward says though in theory i am not opposed to
regional governance and planning. my caveat would be
that we get rid of local governments at that point. we
have enough layers of government already without
adding anymore. each time we come up
our list manager stated in a posting that the strib
editorial board was fair game on mpls. issues. so...
we were treated to a double dose of political speak on
the editorial pages of the strib this morning. i'm an
old wrestling fan myself, pre ventura and wwf, and
there was nothing i liked
carol becker stated "the fastest way to dehumanize a
person is to call them a name". of course she is
right.
this is politics going on here and it seems to me the
whole process has become inherently dehumanizing.
aside: i hate the work "folks". i hear a number of
people toss it around on this

If you read my piece accurately ms berget you will see
that what i object to is the process and the lack of
transparency.
i believe i made clear that i do not know pat born and
that he in fact may be a fine and ethical person.
what i object to are smoke and mirrors. if you like

Since i began this string let me have a word here.
my point in raising the issue was never to impugn the
character of pat born, kathy o'brien, john moir, neil
christenson or anyone else.
what i object to is a lack of transparency and poor
dissemination of information. this is a systemic
problem
I will choose my words carefully and tell a brief
story
I live at 12th and lasalle and walk to work along

hello:
i am forwarding a letter that i wrote and was printed
in SIREN newspaper just after the death of Barbara
Schneider this past june.
i believe the sentiments expressed then hold true
today.
for the record, the henn cty sheriff was to
investigate the death of ms schneider and present its
in sort of a casual way without prejudging the police
but still expressing my thoughts and questions:
i noticed in today's PIPress that Michael Ivory, the
man wounded in the police operation last week was re-
leased from custody yesterday morning at 10:40 am
with-
out being charged by the Ramsey
i apologize for sending some message today that was
encrypted. as some of you may no i am a luddite who
works at library computers and all manner of weird
things show up from time to time and basically i don't
know what i'm doing.
it was just some piffle about art leahy leaving metro
transit and
this is what i sent initially this afternoon. once
again my apologies for sending people off on wild
goose chases.
what has gone unmentioned the past two days was the
story in the briefs of tuesday's strib about art leahy
pulling up roots to move to orange county.
back in april of this year
I hope it's not too late to jump in! I've been busy
trying to learn how to use thia machine and have been
taking remedial classes in tact!
I appreciated Doug Grow's article and others in the
papers.
were they too simplistic? perhaps?
should those involved in nrp groups, etc feel
defensive?
First:I second ann berget's caution when it comes to
using nrp dollars for what out to be standard
operating expenses in a well managed city. oh excuse
me, we are a well managed city!
this is the same issue as spending nrp dollars for
police buybacks. we spend nrp dollars for police
protection
what gives? i thought i could look forward to comments
about the city council president's candidacy for a
fourth term. shocked, i'm shocked!
my favorite part of the strib's story was the line " a
big part of her personal decision was the North Side
housing development and her work on afffordable
the way that i read the article was that GM was
basically bribing Golden Valley to go along with the
project and fight for it.
the idea about the city council of minneapolis coming
clean about this confuses me.
I know the city of mpls. sells water to golden valley.
i have heard that they pay a
i attended the truth and taxation meeting monday
evening which mark brunswick reported on in todays
strib.
one thing i think he failed to mention was a
summarized statement by clic detailing their general
opinions of the mayor's proposed budget.
those opinions included consternation at library
does the vote by the council last evening mean that
aside from barrels on third avenue all that wrangling
in markup went for naught?
does this mean we'll have to do without the "barking
dog/animal warden" program next year? who was that
lone vote on the council opposed to that program?
a note
oops! didn't mean to send the last transmission at
that time and without signing it. I had more to say
but maybe I ought to quit while I'm ahead. Some of you
may know that i conduct my campaign from libray
computers and i just had one freeze up on me and i
lost a whole nother screed. "Whew!" I
I was thumbing through my city budget last night and I
came across something I had highlighted prior to
markup and had questioned in my mind.
If I understand the figures correctly, the city had
net revenue after expense of $1.8 million in 1998. By
1999 it shows net revenue of $124,000 and by the
I just came out of the Olson reappointment hearing.
Everytime I go to one of those things I feel debased
by the entire process.
First of all, you're given two minutes to speak. Hell,
I could speak for an hour and still feel like I had
not given the subject full consideration.
