I've built a few checks that monitor say 5 partitions or ping 5 ip addresses
and will report back if one or more are down. results line says 1 is ok, 2 is
ok, 3 is down,,, etc.

We have been running a check_http to our website and just today it started
alerting. I fixed it but was looking for an explanation of why it failed.
The check was check_http -L www.somesite.com -c 30 -w 15, which was running

I stumbled upon the answer to my issue for a custom status page.
What I was doing wrong was I created in the servicegroups.cfg file with a line
called members
members HOSTNAME1,check_1, check_2,
check_3,check_4,check_5,HOSTNAME2, SAME 5 CHECKS AS HOST
So far everything has been working fine in my test distributed environment.
Getting ready to go live with it as soon as a new server is build for the
central server.
On my distributed set up however.
In /var/log/nagios/nagios.log, I see 2 entries for every check as shown below.

The 5 ping value is written in the check as the default value. If you do not
add any -p value, it pings the host 5x. Just like if you do not add a -t value
for a timeout for a check, it defaults to 10 seconds.

sure you run it as the nagios user and try setting tha warning critical
values to something that will make it fail also:
