Thank you, Wolfgang. Your table is most helpful. This can probably be found
in the documentation but not where I looked. This probably relates to the
recent discussion regarding manuals for novices.
My observation is that \completecontent and \completeindex are treated like
chapter starts
and \completeindex are treated like
chapter starts in that 'Contents' and 'Index' are formatted as if they were
chapter titles.
\completecontent== \title + \placecontent
\completelist == \title + \placelist
\completelistofsynonyms == \chapter + \placelistofsynonyms + \page
to ask is why \complete... use sometimes
\title to place the header text (e.g. for \completecontent) and
sometimes \chapter (e.g. \completeindex) to place the header text. For
bibliography this is even weirder because MKII use \systemsuppliedtitle
while MkIV use \systemsuppliedchapter.

Dear all,
\completeindex creates the bookmark index . I'd like to have the
capitalized version Index.
Is there a way to change that?
Thanks,
Matthias

\placeregister[index]
\stopchapter
Thanks Hans,
is there a mk2 solution as well?

][indicator=yes] does not help.
Another, probably unrelated, problem is that \completeindex does not
seem to do anything.
Can you add
\startluacode
sorters.entries ['fr'] = sorters.entries ['en']
sorters.mappings['fr'] = sorters.mappings['en']
\stopluacode
at the begin of your file. Sorting
Could someone point me to documentation that describes how to change the
format of the index created by \placeindex and \completeindex?
In particular, I want to get rid of the entries created for the letters of
the alphabet because I find them an unnecessary use of space.

Use \subject{Index} \placeindex instead of \completeindex. The same is
true

\title{Inded} \placeregister[index]
or
\startbackmatter
\completeindex
\stopbackmatter
Thanks in advance,
Xan.
