[NTG-context] Stop Hyphenating Across Columns and Page Breaks

2014-07-09 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello,

this is still open, maybe its not clear, what the problem ist. I'll try
again, my not realistic minexample is this one:

\starttext
\dorecurse{200}{Aprikosengeschmacksrichtung }
\stoptext

But what I mean is a feature, which many other typographic programms
have, e.g. Adobe Indesign, see here:
http://indesignsecrets.com/stop-hyphenating-across-columns-and-page-breaks.php

Hyphenation across pages is really ugly and uncomfortable to read, how
would you prevent them?

Thanks!

[NTG-context] Lower the title of TOC

Hi,

how to lower the TOC-title, s.t. it begins with a greater distance to
the top?

Here a min-examlpe.

\starttext

\chapter{Blub2}
\stoptext

I mean something like:

\starttext

\completecontent
\chapter{Blub1}
\chapter{Blub2}
\stoptext

But of course that produce only an empty page before the TOC and can not
work.

How to achieve this correctly?

Re: [NTG-context] Bug in ligature lookup

2014-04-15 Thread H. Özoguz

a real minimal example with clear explanation is needed so that it can
be traced (and we need to be sure the font is right)

I have postet a minexample already here:

http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2014/077590.html

There is a link to the used font, too. If you have problem to see the
unicode (like in my mailer), then you can copy the symbol from pure html
here:

http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/attachments/20140402/d24030dc/attachment.html

You can see the outout, like it should be (screenshot from other
programms outputs) here:

http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/attachments/20140402/d24030dc/attachment.png

It is a very small and clear minexample in my view :)

I do not know, if the font is valid, surely it may have some problems.
But in this case other programs I tried (namely CorelDraw and MS Word)
do not have any problems with this unicode-symbol. Help and fix would be
great, as this symbol is the only one left in my list of hacks and
workarounds to typeset the quran with ConTeXt. (Hacks etc. needed,
because unfortunately there are no good arabic font, either free or
commercial, which can be used for the massive needs of typesetting quran
(thats why nearly all used qurans are still written by hand)).

But if I can make it clearer, I will definitely try, because it is an
important question for typessting quran with ConTeXt.

Thanks!
Huseyin

Ok, the bug is, that, if you try my code with the mentioned font (you
can take it from the html source code to be sure to get the right
unicode char, here:
http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/attachments/20140403/22b89844/attachment-0001.html

than you will see unconnected letters, and not the correct ligature
(which you can see in the unicode). And this is not a font-issue, as
other programms (like Word or CorelDraw) print it correctly with the
same unicode char.

Could I describe it?

[NTG-context] Set two symbols in relative coordinates

2014-04-02 Thread H. Özoguz

Hi,

because of some lacks of my font, I have to use some ugly font-hacks
(bad, I know, but have no choice, because there is still really no good
arabic font for setting quran, seems to be to hard for the world).

One of these hacks is to define a new letter by setting to symbols in
relative coordinates/position to each other.

E.g. I have here an alif (just like a vertical line) together with a dot
above it:

\define\dotalif{{ا \hskip-0.2em{\arial ۟}\hskip0.2em}}

with \hskip I can control the relative position horizontally. How to
control the vertical position, without effecting or switching the line -
like \vskip would do. Is there a method to bring it in position
(relatively, using em as unit), without affecting the normal text? Maybe
as overlay or something like that?

Thanks.

[NTG-context] Adjusting overbar for a special font

2014-04-01 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello there,

I tried to overbar an arabic word, and noticed, that the bar is too low
and overlaps the letters. While producing a minexample, I noticed that
this might be a issue of my font, because this does not happen with
Arial. See this minexample:

\definefont[arial][name:arial*arabic at 12pt]
\definefont[arabicuth][file:UthmanicHafs1Ver09.ttf*arabic at 12pt]

\starttext
\startalign[r2l]
\arial
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ \overbar{وَٱسْجُدْ} وَٱقْتَرِب ۩
\arabicuth
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ \overbar{وَٱسْجُدْ} وَٱقْتَرِب ۩
\stopalign
\stoptext

and compare the compiled pdf in attachment.

You can download the used font-file UthmanicHafs1Ver09.ttf here:

http://fonts.qurancomplex.gov.sa/download/UthmanicHafs1Ver09Font.zip

We have discussed this font here month ago, hans commented: yes, but
calling this a normal font is somewhat over-the-top

So it is quite special - but still best available font (free or
commercial) for typesetting the holy quran.

But setting the bar a bit higher should be easily possible, independent
of these font-lacks, right? The solution should be independent from the
chosen font-size.

Thanks!
Huseyin

Thanks Wolfgang, but this solution is not independent from the size of
the font, and so had to be adjust for each size again (bad for my
project, where the font-size changes on nearly every page).

Which unit has this offset?
\setupbars[overbar][offset=3]

I tried the font-independent unit em

[NTG-context] Testpage with extras

2014-01-30 Thread H. Özoguz

Hi there,

I asked a similar question before, but I try it again (in a bit
different way):

The command \testpage[n] Paragraph sets the next paragraph on the next
page, if there are less than n lines left on the current page. I use
this command very often, but need it with some extension: If \testpage
is active (meaning, there are indeed less than n lines left), then it
should not only input an pagebreak, but also some other command.

E.g.: somewhat like \testpage[n,{\noindentation}] should add
\noindentation before the paragraph, if and only if, there are less
than n lines left. Or maybe: \testpage[n, {TESTPAGE IS ACTIV} to
simply add this text infront of the next paragraph (of course the first
one is more interesting).

At the moment I use \testpage[n]\noindentation but that fails, if the
document has changed and there are = n lines left = no pagebreak, but
still \noindentation of course - but they only should act simultaneously.

Is that possible in some way?

Best regards!

Re: [NTG-context] Testpage with extras

use case needed

Here two cases to compare:

1.

\setupindenting[yes, 9pt, first]

\noindentation\input knuth\\
\input knuth\blank \noindentation
\input knuth
\testpage[35]\noindentation\input knuth

\starttext
\noindentation\input knuth\\
\input knuth\blank \noindentation
\input knuth
\testpage[10]\noindentation\input knuth
\stoptext

In the second case the testpage is not active, but the noindentation
(the one right after it) still is (correct bahavior of course). But I
want to link this testpage and this noindentation with each other,
s.t. both are active, if the line-criterion is true, and both are not
acting, if not. That is, what I meant with \testpage[n,noindentation].

Could I make it clear now?

[NTG-context] Automatic adjusting the font size to fill the text-area

2013-11-26 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello there,

in my actual book there is one special condition: It is already clear
which paragraphs of the text have to be set on page 1, which on page 2
etc.pp. (a nearly 700 pages-project).

So there are no page-breaks within a paragraph, no overruns are allowed.

But now the question: The text for each page has not always the same
length. So on some pages there might be many empty space at the buttom,
while on others the textarea is completely filled. At the beginning I
have to set an font-size - so I have to set it, such that the longest
text fits into the text area on its page. But of course, many other
pages maye filled only 60%. (That is the spectrum of the text-lengths in
this project).

So one direct solution is clear (if one wants to have filled or
nearly-filled pages, and I want this): I can change the font-size for
every single page. But which size? It is a experiment, so I have to try
10pt, then compile, then 10.8pt ok, was too much, got an
page-overrun lets try 10.4pt . and this for every single of the
700 pages.

That is possible of course, and if there is no other way, this will be
my approach.

So: Is there some trick or way for automatically find the best (biggest)
font-size (up to some precision, maybe one digit after decimal point in
pt), s.t. the text produces no overrun (no page-brake)? I guess no,
because ConTeXt had to run the compiling several times or so ... but
better to ask and then to begin with the exhausting work.

Thanks.
Huseyin

Thank you very much, Hans! Now all issues with this font are solved (new
issues within my actual project will surely follow, but no font-issues,
I hope).
I have to say once more, that I never had experienced before a such fast
and competent software-support, that is at least as valuable as the
software itself is!

To your comments: Ok, yes, it is not a really normal font. It is
specially designed for typesetting the holy quran (which is really no
easy work). And there is so absolutely no problem that ALL numbers are
mapped to ligatures - there are no digits in the text of the holy quran
:) (all numbers are written out at that time).

Thanks again!

[NTG-context] Calculating with variables

2013-11-25 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello there,

I am new in variables in ConTeXt, so I tried the the following example
of two font-sizes wich should have a ratio of 0.7:

\setvariables[fontsize][bigsize=17pt]
\setvariables[fontsize][smallsize=0.7\getvariable{fontsize}{size}]

\definefont[big][name:arial at \getvariable{fontsize}{bigsize}]
\definefont[small][name:arial at \getvariable{fontsize}{smallsize}]

\starttext
\big Dies ist ein großer Text.\blank
\small Dies ist ein kleiner Text.
\stoptext

That does not work, what is the correct syntax?

[Second question about this will be much more involving I think ... :),
but I will give it his own thread].

Thanks.

[NTG-context] Converting normal font into bold

2013-11-24 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello together,

I have an arabic font, which is quite perfect, but only a little bit too
thin, so that it seems to vanish into the white of the paper.
Unfortunately this font does not come with an bold-variant.

Now I tried to manipulate it with CorelDraw, just converted into curves
and added an contour (verys small 0.13pt, while font was 11pt) - and it
worked! This aritificial bold-font works very well, better then I
hoped, no problems - although it is no hand-tundes bold, but only
countour-adding.

Now the question: I obviously cant set the entire book (more than 600
pages) with Corel-Draw, and want too use ConText, of course. So is there
a way to produce this boldness out of this too thin font within ConText,
too?

Thank your very much.
Best regards,
Huseyin

May be ConTeXt experts would have better suggestions, till then you
may want to look at the fake bold option in simplefonts -
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Simplefonts#Faking_italics_and_bold_fonts

Thanks for your advice.
Unfortunately I did not manish to work with this font by simplefonts. I use the
following simple setup:

\definefont[arabic][file:bliblablup_0.ttf*arabic at 15pt]
\starttext
\arabic\setupalign[r2l] ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ

How can I get these fake bolds with this setup? Or is it absolutely necessary
to use Simplefont for these fake-bolds?

[NTG-context] No full Unicode-Support in ConTeXt?

2013-11-24 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello there,

I wonder why working with fonts is soo hard in ConText (much easier in
Word or CorelDraw).

See this following font (free, opensource):
http://fonts.qurancomplex.gov.sa/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/UthmanTN1-Ver10.zip

And try now this Context-Code:

\definefont[arabic][file:UthmanTN1Ver10.ttf*arabic at 15pt]

\starttext

\stoptext

You see, this little signs above the letters are vanished in the PDF.
But they are set in CoreDraw (for example). Why, what is the problem?

Similar problems you can see with another font, no problem in CorelDraw,
but problems in ConText.

Hope for help.

Thank you very much.

Re: [NTG-context] Converting normal font into bold

2013-11-24 Thread H. Özoguz

The extend feature stretches the glyphs to get narrow or wide font but it
doesn’t embolden it.

The best solution is to get a font with a real bold style, money shouldn’t be a
problem because fonts are cheap nowadays.

Wolfgang

Thanks, I hoped the it could really embold ist (like I did it in
CorelDraw).

Of course, money is not the problem at all - I am using it commercially,
so the company should by any arabic font I would suggest. But it is very
hard to find an modern font, which is capable of typsetting Quran, with
full supprt and all special symbols (wich are not a part of standard
modern arabic) - and more hard to find such a find in this style (Uthmanic).

I did gave a min-example, didn't I? The JPG was only to make clear, what
I mean with little signs. Is that clear now? Dont know how to say it
better way (sorry my english) :),

also another font is not revealing either
Of course it is not, yes, sorry. But sometimes I have problems with
different fonts (e.g. the letters are not connected), and these problems
do not occur in CorelDraw or some other programs. That is, what I meant.
(Besides from that, it should be clear that I am a very big fan of
ConTeXt and all the way I am talking about it to friends and collegues,
so: no attacks at all :)).

the only issue i see is that this otf font has 2048 units and gets
scaled wrong (in luatex's backend probably)

The problem is not the scaling (may be too, but not my problem here).
Don't you get the following problem in this (your) code?

\definefont[arabica][file:uthmantn1ver10.ttf*arabic at 45pt]
\definefont[arabicb][file:arabtype.ttf*arabic at 45pt]
\starttext
\setupalign[r2l]
\arabica شَدِيدٌۗ\blank\blank
\arabicb شَدِيدٌۗ\par
\stoptext

Maybe its an issue of my context-version, so see the attachment. With
the font arabtype everything is fine, with the font uthmantnver10
the sign is missing.

Re: [NTG-context] Converting normal font into bold

2013-11-24 Thread H. Özoguz

It is my believe that Unicode has the wrong properties for Arabic
standalone Hamza; in short you should just type a regular Hamza in the
middle of the word and it will get positioned correctly. Placing a
combining Hamza over a Tatweel to “fake” it is wrong IMO. So in Amiri
you just type “بِءَايَٰتِ” and voilà, every thing is rendered correctly (the
same is true for the small Alef).

Yes, that works. But the direct way works with Uhtmanic1HafsVer9:

\definefont[arabicamiri][file:amiri-regular.ttf*arabic at 15pt]
\definefont[arabicuth][file:UthmanicHafs1Ver09.ttf*arabic at 17pt]
\starttext
\setupalign[r2l]
\arabicamiri بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
\blank
\arabicuth بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
\stoptext

To be honest, in Corel Draw UthmanicHafs is the perfect font for my
purpose - at least in CorelDraw - e.g.: The ayat-numbers are printed as
a unicode-symbol, not as numbers (perfect, because ConTeXt has problems
with the direction with arabic numbers, they are mirrored in ConTeXt).

But it is only perfect in CorelDraw, in ConTeXt some things are not
recognized correctly, as I mentioned. E.g. this one:

\definefont[arabicamiri][file:amiri-regular.ttf*arabic at 15pt]
\definefont[arabicuth][file:UthmanicHafs1Ver09.ttf*arabic at 17pt]
\starttext
\setupalign[r2l]
\arabicuth لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿٢﴾
\stoptext

If I put the same arabic into CorelDraw, it prints a nice Unicode-Symbol
for the number - see the JPG I have attached here, screenshot from
CorelDraw, but ConTeXt ignores the brackets and prints just a verys
small number. There are some problems like this. Are they easy to fix,
or is this problem deeply involved?

Re: [NTG-context] Converting normal font into bold

2013-11-24 Thread H. Özoguz

Hi Ondra,

thanks for your help.

Apparently, replacing a number enclosed in ornate parentheses (U+FD3E
and U+FD3F) with a number in the end of ayah ornament is a specialty
of the UthmanicHafs font. If I input the digit (e.g. U+0662) and then
the special non-printable end of ayah character (U+06DD), ConTeXt
and Amiri successfully output the digit inside the ornament.

Hmm, ok. But if it is a speciality of UthmanicHafs, why CorelDraw
understands it natively?

Of course, since U+06DD is a non-printable character, it might be a
pain to work with in a text editor; you might want to define a custom
command for this purpose:

\def\eoa#1{#1\char06DD}

Thanks, that works fine:

\definefont[arabicamiri][file:amiri-regular.ttf*arabic at 15pt]
\definefont[arabicuth][file:UthmanicHafs1Ver09.ttf*arabic at 17pt]
\def\eoa#1{#1\char06DD}
\starttext
\setupalign[r2l]
\arabicuth لأَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ ﴿٨١﴾\eoa
\stoptext

But now another question arises: How to input this command into my
unicode of quran automatically? (I am using notepad++). Not the best way
to do this manually for all 286 Ayas (and then search and replace for
all ayas of all suras).

And still: There must be some tricks in CorelDraw handling fonts, which
would be great to have in ConText :)

Thank you!
Huseyin

PS: Sorry for these annoyong thread-breaking all the time - I really do
not know, what I make wrong here. I am using Thunderbird. If anybody
knows how to use thunderbird for email lists correctly, I would be thankful.

[NTG-context] Aligning Part-Title in TOC

2013-10-23 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello together,

my question today is about aligning the part-title in the toc, see this
simple example:

\setuphead[part][number=no]
\starttext
\completecontent
\part{Part 1: This is the title of the first part, it is very very
long,  but actually not a real title of a part in a book}

\stoptext

Whatever I try, using \crlf, \\, \blank[...] or anything else, I did not
get the result of aligning I want. I want the title indented in the
second line, as is is in the first line (so both lines have a
left-offset to Part 1). For better understanding I attached a image
with the intended result. How to do get this?

Thanks alot.

Re: [NTG-context] Breaks in TOC

2013-10-07 Thread H. Özoguz
Thanks to your kindely help, Nr. 2 is solved easily, but Nr. 1 is still
open. Is it clear, what I intend to do, or totally unclear? :)

The question is simply to break a title in the TOC, without breaking it
in the text. Or more generally: How to change the title in the TOC
(maybe a complete other title, as in the text, like it is possible for
the header by the key marking). (No matter, if that makes sense, or not).

Thanks.

Thanks Wolfgang, so I guess the key I was looking for is list. But see
what happens here:

\starttext
\completecontent
\startsection[
title={Eine sehr, sehr lange Überschrift, die auf jeden Fall
irgendeine Art von Formatierung benötigt.},
list={Eine sehr, sehr lange Überschrift,\\die auf jeden Fall irgendeine
Art von Formatierung benötigt.}

]

\startsection[
title={Eine sehr, sehr lange Überschrift, die auf jeden Fall
irgendeine Art von Formatierung benötigt.},
list={Eine sehr, sehr lange Überschrift,\par die auf jeden Fall
irgendeine Art von Formatierung benötigt.}

]
\stoptext

The first try with \\ has no effect. And the second with \par
justifies the first line, which is not intended. How to get only a
normal break, without new aligning of the first line?

[NTG-context] Empty page without header, footer, pagenumber

2013-10-02 Thread H. Özoguz

Hi there,

since long time I always use hacks and complicate uses of

\setuppagenumbering[location=] and \startfrontmatter \stopfrontmatter in
different places of my documents, which habe often sideeffects and make
problems.

All this just for realizing a very simple rule: If the page is empty (no
text), then it should be totally empty, that is: No header, no footer,
no pagenumber. But apart from this, do nothing – do not change effects
of partnumerings (like \frontmatter does), or anything else.

That is all I need. Is that easy to realize without on/off-commands,
which makes confusing in a large document?

Thanks.

Thanks Wolfgang, but its not so easy. I knew this commands, but that is,
what I meant with this problems I had. In a large document often empty
pages (but with numbers) appear infront of a new part, or chapter,
because this new part has to be set on a odd page, for example. And so I
have always to deactivate all things, and activate them after this empty
page again, exactly with these commands above.

That is, why I had the pseudo-algorithm idea, that context should just
look after, which pages are empty, and to clear everything on them (or:
to not set anything on them, if there is no text). That would give
perfect result with only one single command, without switching all the way.

[NTG-context] Breaks in TOC

2013-10-01 Thread H. Özoguz

Hi there,

two questions about formatting the TOC or the titles in the TOC:

1. How to formate the titles different in the text and in the TOC
respectively? I only mean line breaks.

E.g., see this minexample:

\starttext
\completecontent
\startsection[

\stoptext

That does not work, label and marking are the wrong keys for setting the
TOC-Title, which have no effect on the title in the toc, which one is
the correct key?

2. How to prevent page-breaks after some title in the TOC? E.g. I have a
chapter title in the toc, and after chapter-titles there should be no
immediate page-break. So I would need something like \testpage[10], but
for the toc. How to do this?

Thanks again.

[NTG-context] [***SPAM***] \part without adding partnumber to other headers

2013-09-10 Thread H. Özoguz
I want to use \part without the number of the part as a piece of the
headnumbers (of chapter, section, subsection ).

E.g.:

\part{One}
\chapter{Chapter}
\section{Section}
\part{Two}
\chapter{Chapter}
\section{Section}

gives this compile:

1.1 Chapter
1.1.1 Section
2.1 Chapter
2.1.1 Section

But I only want:

1 Chapter
1.1 Section
1 Chapter
1.1 Section

(because the number of the current part is already written in the
header). So actually, I want to use \part as a resetter of the
headnumbers. Is that possible?

[NTG-context] Footnotes italic or normal? And BEFORE for footnotes

2013-09-06 Thread H. Özoguz

Two questions about footnotes:

1. By default the footnote-number (now always speaking of the fn-numbers
in the text, not at the buttom) appears in the same style, like the
text. E.g.:

\starttext
{\it This was\footnote{And actually is.} my way of typesetting.}
Is\footnote{Another fn.} this not beautiful?

\stoptext

You see, the first number is italic, the second normal. How can I force
ALL fn-numbers to appear in normal style, independent from the textstyle
of the text, they were set in?

2. I want to add a \narrownobreakspace before every footnote-number
(because of the closing quotation marks, which often overlap with them,
especially if they are set italic). One manual way would be this:

Any text.\narrownobreakspace\footnote{fn}

But how can I do it generally in the style-file? Is there something like
a before key for the fn-numbers?

Best would be, if this \narrownobreakspace would be only set, if an
quotation mark comes directly before the fn-number. But I guess that is
not easy, so the general solution would be ok, too.

Only ?!, instead of Only ? ! (here in this mailer shown with normal

[NTG-context] Different counters for titles

2013-09-03 Thread H. Özoguz
To solve my last asked question, I chose a somewhat easiert way and
defined an own chapter-title, which is unnumbered.

Here is my Minexample:

\definehead[mychapter][chapter]
\setuphead[mychapter][number=no]
\setupcombinedlist[content]
[list={mychapter, chapter, section}]

\starttext
\completecontent
\mychapter{Vorwort}
\chapter{First Chapter}
\section{Some section in the first chapter}
\chapter{Second chapter}
\section{Some section in the second chapter}
\stoptext

The problem is now: Obviously the counter of mychapter and chapter is
the same. Because first chapter begins with number 2, but should with
1 – that was the intention of this new chapter style, which is nothing
but a unnumbered copy of the default chapter. Was that idea wrong? How
to give chapter and mychapter their own counters, to achieve this result
– or any other way to let first chapter begin with 1 (but not subtract
1 from the numbers, because that ends up in the first section 1.0. The
first section of the first chapter should be numbered with 1.1, as usual).

Re: [NTG-context] Different counters for titles

2013-09-03 Thread H. Özoguz

\startchapter[ownnumber=1,title=chap 1]

This cheat gives the chapter his own number, but the counter still
counts. So for my minexample it does not work:

\definehead[mychapter][chapter]
\setuphead[mychapter][number=no]

\setupcombinedlist
 [content]
 [list={mychapter, chapter, section}]

\starttext
\completecontent
\startmychapter[ownnumber=0,title=Vorwort]
\chapter{First Chapter}
\section{Some section in the first chapter}
\chapter{Second chapter}
\section{Some section in the second chapter}
\stoptext

Still first chapter has the number 2 etc. Of course I could change all
chapter numbers by my own with this cheat ownnumber, but that would be
inappropriate, I have many of them in my currect project, and maybe
things change and then I have to change and correct all of them again
and again ...

Maybe this way would work too: To define a new title (same styled like
chapter, but not a clone), which has no counter and to add this title
Vorwort into the toc. Then the first real chapter would
automatically begin with 1?! Would that work, and if yes, how to do that?

Re: [NTG-context] Numbering sections

2013-09-02 Thread H. Özoguz

Thanks Wolfgang, nearly perfect, what I wanted.

The problem left is here:

\defineexpandable[1]\Previousnumber
  {\number\numexpr#1-1\relax}
\defineconversion[previousnumber][\Previousnumber]
\setuphead[section][conversion=previousnumber]
\starttext
\dorecurse{5}{\chapter{Chapter #1}
\section{Section #1}
\section{Section #1}
\section{Section #1}
\section{Section #1}
}
\stoptext

Now I want the section-numbers in each chapter to start with x.1 (never
x.0). But I had to subtract from all section numbers 1, to let the
section numbers begin with 1 in the second chapter (my first chapter is
without numbering and without sections, there this question comes from).

So in the above example everything is fine, besides this x.0, the
second numbers (indicating the section) should always begin with 1. Is
that possible?

Thanks for your help one again!

[NTG-context] [***SPAM***] Indentation for page-numbers

2013-08-26 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello,

how to modify \setuppagenumbering to get indented page-numers?

I use:

\setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided,
location={footer,right},
way=bytext, sectionnumber=yes, partnumber=yes]

Is there a key indent or something to get the pagenumbers a small bit
indented (direction: middle of the page).

Thanks!

[NTG-context] Minimal word-distance?

Beyond the possibility to influence the tolerance by \setuptolerance, is
it possible to declare explicit the minimal allowed word-distance? I

That simply overrides protrusion and justification, forcing a constant

The question is, only to add an minimal distance, wich has not to be
undercut while protrusing and justifying.

[NTG-context] Linecorrection and distances

2013-07-18 Thread H. Özoguz
I use grid-setting, but have elements, which should not be set on the
grid (because it is impossible, because of different interlinespaces,
bigger fonts, or whatever).

For these elements I use
\startlinecorrection Elements \stoplinecorrection
After these elements the normal text is continued, set on the grid
again. That is all working and fine.

But: The distances between these \startlinecorrection Elements
\stoplinecorrection blocks and the text (both distances, before and
after) are not always the same, they seem to be random. How to correct
that without inserting \vksip+-Xpt manually before/after the
linecorrected blocks?

For testing:

\showgrid

\setuplayout[grid=yes]

\definefont[big][name:Arial at 25 pt]

\def\kurztext{Dies ist ein kurzer Text. Die anderen Standardtexte sind
deutlich zu lang.}

\starttext

\kurztext

\startlinecorrection

\big \kurztext Und noch Zusatztext.

\stoplinecorrection

\kurztext

\startlinecorrection

\big \kurztext

\stoplinecorrection

\kurztext

\stoptext

In the above example you can see it, the distances between the grid set
and the not grid set text are different.

Thanks for your help once again.

Re: [NTG-context] Linecorrection and distances

2013-07-18 Thread H. Özoguz

you only switch the font so the distance between lines is determines by
the size of glyphs + interlineskip .. best use:

\big \setupinterlinespace

My Problem is NOT the bad interlinespacing of the big font in my
example. Of course I can correct that with your suggestion, but thats
not the topic. These big font sentences are only examples for
elements, which are not set on the grid.
The question is: How to achieve same distances between every normal text
(set on the grid) and the elements (not set on the grid)? It is clear
that not all before-distances and all after-distances respectivley can
be the same simulatously, thats trivial. But at least all
before-distances (so the distance between the text and the elements, in
this order!) should be the same in the complete book. How to?

[NTG-context] ConTeXt with TeXnicCenter

2013-06-07 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello all together,

as I am a bit irritated of the limitations of TeXWorks (both in
stability and comfort for big project), I want to switch to TeXnicCenter.

I followed the instructions of http://wiki.contextgarden.net/TeXnicCenter

and wantet to test it. With a simple

\starttext
\input knuth
\stoptext

it works (up to problems with Sumatra PDF, the invers search does not
work, the instruction of the wiki are maybe outdated, but that is a
topic for another thread...).

But if I take a bit more complicated document, it totally fails. Here is
my testdocument, which compiles fine in TeXWorks:

%Testfile
\definefont[amiri][name:arial*arabic at 35 pt]

\starttext
{\setupalign[r2l]\amiri
اللّـهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلى مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد
}
\stoptext
%

(Everybody should be able to compile this with the font arial for arabic.)

The compiling fails and this is the log (very long, sorry...):

[NTG-context] [***SPAM***] Strategies to control moving footnotes

2013-06-04 Thread H. Özoguz
I have often the problem of moving footnotes (with activated grid
setting). That means, the footnote is not on the same page as the
footnotenumber, but moved on the next page. That apperas often if you
have a book with many not-so-short footnotes. Maybe one has to accept
that, but in some cases it is really ugly. How do you manish these
cases, how to control in general this problem? It appears, if the
footnote is not very short and the footnotenumber is at the bottom of
the page (in the text). So the footnote on the same text would shift the
footnotenumber on the next. Are there some automated strategies and keys
in context, or is there no other way than manipulating the text itself?

to the very same footnote. The footnote should than enumerate the
numbers like:

Text (Footnote 1) Text (Footnote 2)
-
1,2 Very explenating information.

Thanks for help.

[NTG-context] Picture before chapter-title, but on same page

2013-06-03 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello there,

I want to place a picture at the top on a page, and directly after that
a chapter-title (without a page break). I tried it with the key
continue, but that does not work.

Here my try:

\setuphead
  [chapter]
  [continue=yes]
\starttext
\startplacefigure [title={Some picture.}, reference=fig:demo, number=no]
 \externalfigure[picture][width=5cm]
\stopplacefigure
\chapter{Chapter-title}
\stoptext

How to correct it?

Thanks!

[NTG-context] Adjust font size to cell height in natural table

2013-05-27 Thread H. Özoguz

Hello together,

I use this as a natural table

\def\esl[#1][#2][#3][#4][#5][#6][#7]{%
\page
\startframed[frame=off,width=fit,offset=overlay,align=middle,background=eslami]%
  \bTABLE[width=4.55cm,align={middle,lohi}]
\bTR\bTD[height=2cm] ~\blank[-3.4mm]#1 \eTD\eTR
\bTR\bTD[height=3cm] #2\\#3\\#4\\#5\\#6 \eTD\eTR
\bTR\bTD[height=2.4cm] #7 \eTD\eTR
  \eTABLE
\stopframed}

Now it can happen, that the text of #7 is too long for the third cell,
which is 4.55cm x 2.4cm. Is it possible to automatically adjust the fonz
size (of this text in this sepcific cell only), s.t. it fits in the cell?

[NTG-context] [***SPAM***] Re: Understanding the imposing-mechanism

2013-05-25 Thread H. Özoguz

You have to change the size for the page and paper, the first has to be the
size of the cards
while the second is the size of the paper which you use to print all cards.

\definepapersize [card] [width=47.5mm,height=76mm]
\definepapersize [sheet] [width=660mm,height=330mm]

\setuppapersize [card][sheet]

\setuplayout [page] [location=middle,marking=on]
\setuplayout [page]

\setuppaper[nx=13,ny=4]
\setuparranging [XY]

\starttext
\showframe
\dorecurse{100}{\centerbox{\definedfont[Sans sa 5]\pagenumber}\page}
\stoptext

Wolfgang

Thanks Wolfgang, that works.
Next question to this: The printable area of the sheet is not the
complete area, e.g. it has a not-printable margin of 10mm on the left,
2mm right, and 5mm at the top and 5mm at the bottom. How to control
these margins, s.t. the cards are only set in the printable area of the
sheet? I tried with topspace, buttomspace etc. in \setuplayout, but
that does not work now.

Thanks.

[NTG-context] Understanding the imposing-mechanism

2013-05-24 Thread H. Özoguz

Hi there,

following Wolfgangs suggestion, I set every game-card on a single page
now. All cards are in one pdf-File, each on his own page. Every page has
the size 47,5mm x 76mm.

Now I tried to place the pages on a big sheet, its size is 660mm x
330mm, s.th. the small cards are set in a 4*13 sceme (floor(330/76)=4
and floor(660/47,5) = 13) - but I failed.

There is an example in the wiki for imposing existing pdf-pages, but I
do not understand it, and if I try to change its values for my example,
I get nothing reasonable, nor even understandable.

The example of the wiki is here: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Imposition

And here my failed try:

\definepapersize[sheet][width=660mm,height=330mm]
\definepapersize[bigsheet][width=\dimexpr\paperwidth+4mm\relax,height=\dimexpr\paperheight+4mm\relax]
\setuppaper[sheet][bigsheet]
\setuppaper[nx=13, ny=4]
\setuplayout[page][location=middle, marking=on]
\setuparranging [XY]

\setuplayout
  [backspace=0pt,
topspace=0pt,
   width=middle,
  height=middle,
location=middle,
  header=0pt,
  footer=0pt]
\setuppagenumbering[]

\starttext
\insertpages
  [eslami_karten.pdf][]
\stoptext

Thanks for help.

[NTG-context] [***SPAM***] Re: Two-language environment and page breaking

2013-05-23 Thread H. Özoguz
Just to try another attempt for getting hints from you: You can see in
the examples, the the middle vertical line (which is just the right
frame of the left cell) is not exactly as high as the text needs. It is
a bit higher and stick a little bit out, at the beginning (top) and at
the end (bottom) of the natural table. How to fix this, so that the
vertical line (right border frame) exactly ends and begins with the
textline? That would help to get an exact connection to the next block.

Of course the alternative would be to set frame=off for the tables and
to place an vertical line as overlay on every single page (as
background). But for that I would have to use the length of the text on
a page, to adjust the line as long, as needed, not longer, not over the
complete page every time.

Thanks!

I someone could tell me how to place images horizontally side by side,
not only vertically, then I possibly could make it with some use of
\dorecurse?

[NTG-context] Place a box on the right

Hi there,

\starttext

\startalignment[right] \framed{This box should be on the right side, but

I know it is easy, but could not find it in the reference. Why not allow
simply \framed[location=right]{} ? (right is not a correct keyword for
location).

[NTG-context] [***SPAM***] Two-language environment and page breaking

Hi,

one more question to my arabic-german table environment. See this code:

In the code you see two \startarde\stoparde blocks. The first block is
the example, the correct setting. But the first block can not be broken
over pages. This is fixed by the second block, where I seperated the
text into two \arde, so now it can be broken over pages, because they
are now two different tables. But if they are NOT broken over pages,
they sould be set as if they were only one table, so as in the first
\startarde\stoparde block. But the are not. You see the small distance
between them.

Is there a way to produce the behavior I descibed? It would be a
workaround to get natural tables, which can be broken over pages (my
manually sperating them). (Only natural tables are possible for this
environment, and not normales tables, because of the needed different
interlinespace of the two columns).

Thanks.
Huseyin

[NTG-context] Tesselating the sheet with a image

2013-05-20 Thread H. Özoguz

Hi there,

for a card game I have this macro:

\defineoverlay[eslami][{\externalfigure[somepicture.pdf]}]
\def\esl[#1][#2][#3]{%
\startframed[frame=on,width=4.75cm,offset=overlay,align=middle,background=eslami]%
  \offinterlineskip
  \framed[width=4.75cm,frame=off,height=2cm]{\blank[-3mm]#1}\\
  \framed[width=4.75cm,frame=off,height=3cm]{#2}\\
  \framed[width=4.75cm,frame=off,height=2.4cm]{#3}
\stopframed}
\starttext
\esl[blub][blub][blub]
\stoptext

which produces cards with some text (see attachment).
Now, I only want to write in the editor the commands

\esl[blub1][blub1][blub1]
\esl[blub2][blub2[blub2]
\esl[blub3][blub3][blub3]
etc.

and these images / overlays should be placed automatically vertically
and horizontically over the sheets, like a tesselation (and after that
they will be printed and cutted).
The order of setting the cards is not important. If one page is full,
then they should be placed automatically on the next page - but
perfectly the same way, on the same locations, like on all other pages.
That is important for cutting, each card should have two sides, so they
have to match in location.

Is there a way to do this?
Thank you.
Huseyin

PS.: Before this mail I accidentally sent a mail with a slightly
different code and a too big attachment, which awaited moderation, so it
can be ignored.
