two males were present at the Jones Beach (West End) Coast Guard
station Saturday morning. Migrant Northern Flickers and Tree Swallows (ca.
20) were also evident. At Point Lookout, the 8 Harlequin Ducks (4
adult-plumaged
Eastern Bluebirds are rather inconspicuous as spring migrants on Long Island,
so this is worth a mention. A group of 4 was found in Alley Pond Park yesterday
(by Jeff Ritter and Alison and Karlo Mirth) (in the woods) and another was at
Jones Beach today (near the nature center).

Hello All, Those were some wicked NW winds out on the barrier island
today. Dick Belanger found the 2 American Oystercatchers that had been seen
yesterday,[Rich Kaskan got 7 more down at Ponquogue Bridge].Other notables
were 2 Savannah Sparrow, 2 Horned Lark, 2 American Pipit,3 Great

I was at EPCAL this morning and noted at least 7 American Kestrels, several
Horned Larks and Eastern Meadowlarks, a Savannah Sparrow, 2 Northern
Harriers, a Red-tailed Hawk and a flyover by 2 Great Egrets. Also there
were 6 Turkeys present.
Dune Rd. was very quite with the only notable species
The Saturday morning bird walk was greeted by an immature bald eagle soaring
high in the sky over the main entrance.
Other highlights include the sighting of owlets in the great horned owl's nest.
We are hoping that photographers and birders respect the area around the nest.
