The Captree CBC (NYCA) will be held this year on Sunday Dec 15th, with
the compilation dinner to follow at the Villa Monaco, 778 Montauk
Highway, West Islip NY 11795.
The Southern Nassau CBC (NYSN) will be on Saturday Dec 28th, with the
compilation dinner to follow at the Wander Inn (same
The Ash-throated Flycatcher continued at West End II well into the
afternoon. Many birders were treated to great views and a few of us,
including Patricia Lindsay, Steve Walter, Ed Becher and Steve Schellenger
kept a watchful eye tracking its whereabouts until other birders arrived.

I've posted a picture of the Jones Beach ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER at my web
site http://www.stevewalternature.com/ . This one turned out to be quite
cooperative through the day, being seen by many. Its favored area ended up
being about even with the eastern exit from West End 2 - sometimes in the
Flock of 42 snow buntings in ball field area when you first drive in; kestrel
on post and also a harrier in landfill; and a Great horned owl sitting in the
open just off road near tent camp area

On today's walk, one of the great horned owls was spotted and looked quite
majestic in a pine tree.

I was at Mill Pond, Wantagh, Massapequa Lake and Preserve today. Most
notable sighting was a hybrid wigeon at the Massapequa Preserve at the pond
by Pittsburgh Ave. (around 4pm) I believe this is the same one I saw there
last year with 3 Eurasian Wigeon. The female Eurasian
In addition to the continuing Cackling Goose that I reported earlier today,
other notable sightings enjoyed by my group included a late lingering
Blue-headed Vireo, a gathering flock of 25+ Rusty Blackbirds, This compared to
the two I had last week, and a pair of very obliging American Pipits.
The Cackling Goose that Debbie Allen found over a week ago continues on the
southwest corner of the Parade Grounds, or the area closest to the tennis
courts. The presumed Lesser Canada Goose was no where to be found.

Refound by Ken and Sue Fuestel. On the edge of the median just before the
West II parking lot. The bird is moving around so look for the group of
birders if you try for it.
