I just had a male Cardinal singing a complete song right outside my
building in Nassau County. Spring will be coming fast!

On today's NYC Audubon Winter Eco-cruise, we had some great sightings:
In Buttermilk Channel by Governor's Island, we had a large flock of a couple
hundred Scaup (all Greater I believe), also several Buffleheads, Red-breasted
Merganser, Gadwall, Am. Black Duck, and Double-crested Cormorant.
A Pink-footed Goose was sleeping on the ice at Merritt's Pond in Riverhead,
Long Island this morning, very likely the same bird that was present nearby in
January. The only way to view this pond is from the road in a quiet residential
neighborhood, so extra courtesy is in order.

Dear NY Birders,
With less than a month to go, I wanted to again remind folks of the 2014 Rusty
Blackbird Spring Migration Blitz. Rusty Blackbirds face an unfortunate and
remarkable notoriety: this species has endured a decline more severe than that
of any other once-common landbird. In March
This afternoon along Dune Road I spotted 1 Snowy Owl on a duck blind
between Tiana and Dockers
Other birds seen here Black Crowned Night Herons and Great Blue Herons.
The Inlet was quiet - a raft of birds off one of the jetties but nothing
in close. A few red-breasted mergansers in the open
I spent the first 3 hours of this afternoon in pursuit of my current
nemeses, the Lapland Longspur. Although remaining longspur-less at day's
end, I did have a rewarding outing. While traveling west as far as Hulse
Landing Rd., Wading River, and then east, ending up at Mattituck Inlet,
