there was a large mixed flock (about 400 birds) of Snow Buntings, Horned
Larks, and LAPLAND LONGSPURS. In a single pass I counted 126 Longspurs on

Of the adult male Varied Thrush seen today (esp. well before a Sharp-
shinned Hawk put in an appearance directly above the thrush's favored
feeding areas, and then in nearby trees on the inner oval - where the

To add to this seasons Eurasian Wigeon count, I observed a handsome drake near
the south end of Mill Pond in Centerport around noon today. The bird was
feeding with 6 American Wigeon and 10 Gadwall before it decided to leave the
group and head north. It looked like it may have put down just
I had a Red-necked Grebe at Fort Wadsworth off of the jetty. Mike Shanley and
I then had a flyby flock of Canada Geese that had a Cackling Goose mixed in
with it. The geese flew over Brooklyn and past the Verazano bridge and kept

On my way back from seeing the Stuyvesant Varied Thrush. I just
received a call from Ed Becher who had two flocks of Tundra Swans
flyby at Jones Beach earlier today.
The flocks consisted of 10 and 11 birds respectively and were seen
about 1/2 hour apart around 11:30 am. Ed, unfortunately did

Joe Giunta and I (Sy Schiff) drove into the town park and spooked a flock of
