Hi Everyone,
I drove out east and birded back going west. Highlights were:
On Ponquogue Ave, waiting for everyone to drive into the school lot, there
was a large flock of 75+ Robins eating berries in the trees
Shinnecock Inlet: was on the west side of the inlet and met a fellow birder

It's come to my attention that Klemens Gasser spotted this immature Iceland
Gull a few hours before I reported it. I didn't know it had been seen
previously at the time. Credit where it's due.
Nice spot Klemens!

The Red-necked grebe reported by Evan Mark at Piermont Pier, Rockland Co.,
was seen at approximately 2:00 PM (1/27/2014) well out into the main channel
of the Hudson River just slightly upriver from the end of the pier. The bird
was in the scope for about a minute, but was frequently obscured by
Sean Sime and I spent from 1:45pm until 3:20pm at the Veterans Memorial Pier
but never spotted the Common Gull. As a consolation prize there was a 1st year
Iceland Gull hanging around next to the pier.
Good birding,
Rob

I just heard several BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS calling overhead while I was outside
filling up my feeders. A made a quick scan of the cedars and the sumac bushes
under the power lines next door but did not see any birds actively feeding.

Hello Everyone,
I have word that this trip is in need of *4 more seats* to fill before we
have the numbers that would allow the ship to sail (not to worry, there
will be room for more). The weather forecast at the moment looks good and
for those worried about the cold, it is several degrees
In my haste, I wrote "Cackling" when, of course, I intended "Barnacle"
Goose. Thanks to the several people who quickly notified me of this
idiotic (my word, not theirs) mistake.
