You know, I never did understand that it's not your
father's Oldsmobile' campaign. How did it ever get to
be thought of as a slow, old foggie's car? Karen

Hello all-
I had the carb on my '70 350 rebuilt by a friend (who owed me a favor) for
the cost of the carb kit so I didn't know how much it cost to *pay* someone
to do it. Now I'd like to have my '86 E4MC rebuilt.
I looked at Sparky's Carb Service and they want $350! I had no idea it

That doesn't sound like much of a fair fight. They outnumber you, and kids

Scott,
Joe's right. It's not that hard. Follow the advice in the book and the
instructions that come with the carb kit. Pay strict attention to detail.
You can buy a 1-2 gallon pail of carb cleaner to soak the disassembled carb
in. The cleaner washes off with water. Then, use compressed air
Rebuilding carburetors is one of my least favorite activities. I have done
about 10 of them, some with very good and some with mixed results. If it
were for a collector's car, I'd gladly pay Sparky and have a unit that's
like brand new. Also note what a rebuilt unit at the parts store will cost
So...You get into an accident saying you were only going 45, there'll be a
day when the court can get a warrant to purge the vehicle computer and it'll
give your actual speed at the time of the accident.
It may already be happening.

Does anyone on the list have experience with high
mileage Northstar V8 engines?

Yes, many folks do. [Not I however]
What problems do
Northstar engines typically
Northstar motors are great. They use waterpumps about every 30k and they use
some oil inbetween oil changes but they give good service from my experiance
with them.
