Sounds like the plugs in the float bowl were not epoxied when the carb was
rebuilt and the fuel is leaking out.
Fuel starvation at WOT would be more in the area of jetting, float height
incorrect

Wait a minute. Your initial post said the engine races freely without the
car accelerating when you floor it, IIRC? Is this right?
Fred's right. If the engine is revving up, and you're not going anywhere,
how did the mech. come up with the idea of a fuel delivery problem? That
