[openthinclient-user] package-development translation to englisch
Hi folks, I'm happy to announce that after a wiki-software revamp, we finally uploaded an updated, thorough help for how to develop packages for the openthinclient suite . It's not the hardest thing in the world to do, but many things are just conventional and thus hard to grasp without any reference. This page is supposed to fill the gap. I'd be glad to hear from you of things went and if there are issues or necessary informations lacking. As we do this kind of work almost every day, you can get, what we call 'betriebsblind' (routine blinded) in German ;) Whatever exotic package you may try to package on your own, don't hesitate, feel invited to share with community, write emails to us, raise pull requests on github. Re: [openthinclient-user] Can't mount installed applications on the Thin client
Dear Mark and Mahmoud, there is only a limited possibility of providing compatibilities for the mentioned packages. Due to the different filesystem structure and python libs, the typical launcher script changed a great deal. Technically you can mount a v1 package, but as you guys experienced, the launcher will only work partially if at all. Greetings from Dresden Steffen On Thu 16 Jan 2014 01:30:46 AM CET, Mark D-B wrote: Dear Mahmoud et al, It was not clear to me that the usual applications, such as FireFox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, do not yet exist in the v2 package library. Mahmoud's posts however suggested to me that this may be the case. Looking at the v2 area, it is clear that there is only the fundamental OTC content there at the moment. I have found that the following content for sources.list provides the capability to add applications without upsetting the core components: # v1 - needed for packages that don't exist in v2 yet! deb http://packages.openthinclient.org/openthinclient/v1/manager ./ # v2 rolling deb http://packages.openthinclient.org/openthinclient/v2/manager-rolling ./ However, I have the same issue as Mahmoud when trying to use the v1repository for FireFox and LibreOffice - the icons appear on the client desktop but they are not mounted into /opt so do not work. Is it simply that we can't use v1 packages with v2? All the best, Mark On 14/01/14 21:46, Mahmoud Ramadan Ali wrote: Hello and welcome every one... Hi Alisson, you can find repo-links on this page, e. g. for icaclient12: http://openthinclient.org/download_apps_updates Just pick the one, you're interested in and edit /opt/openthinclient/server/default/data/nfs/root/etc/sources.list to include it. Configs break almost too easily, a apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade will not be so easily. It's almost wrong to describe the Ubuntu OS as _underlying_ OS as it comprises a mix of different sources: not only four different versions of Ubuntu versions, custom build (upstream) / programmed software fairly dependant on everything to be exactly like it is now. Have a look at [1] and [2] if you are interested in the details, as we are developing a new release with Debian 7 as userland base! [openthinclient-user] openthinclient OS v2.0 - early announcement
Hello, my name is Steffen Hönig, and I'm developer and project manager with openthinclient.com. We are in the midst of a transition to a new, Debian based userland. While our customers feedback suggests the graphical Java component - the so-called openthinclient Manager helps people ease their administrational everyday life, the aging client software (openthinclient OS) needs an overhaul to say the least. Hence we are looking for more than updating a bunch of packages, kernels and so on. *We ask you to be part of the new release from the very beginning!* We look for people who'd like to volunteer for openthinclient OS on several levels. It's kind of an experiment for us too, but if you are a(n) * administrator, hunting for bugs as soon there is an installer packages available * developer, feeling at home with *bash*or *python*scripts * technically interested user *Then we'd like to invite you being a part of the new openthinclient OS project.* To take part you might choose one of the following actions: * upload proposals for stuff that should be implemented * take part as a developer sending in patches or even ready-made packages * *write*articles on our*wiki *(soon tba!)* * * general community: work as a moderator on the mailing list Our first goals in the course of the next few weeks is to rebuild the openthinclient OS environment with the help of the LINBO building environment build by Klaus Knopper (knopper.net). Next to a Debian 7 (Wheezy) core the userland will be made of a custom kernel/initrd package and several python scripts to boot the clients via PXE and mount the userland images via NFS. The main goal will be to bring as much of functionality of our release back to be at least on par with the current feature set as possible. We'd be eager for people who'd like to be *early-bird testers* or *scripters*, who are familiar with bash and squashfs alike images to send us ideas, (or even better) code to improve the development environment. For that we will upload our code as soon as something is in the state of being bootable. So here is what you can do in a brief summary: * subscribe to our mailinglists and send in ideas no matter what they target at * help to improve our bilingual wiki pages (address soon to be announced) * write code! -- Mit freundlichen Grüßen Steffen Hönig -- Development Support openthinclient gmbh, Büro Dresden Frühlingstr. 11, 01099 Dresden, Deutschland Telefon: +49 35141886215-1 Mobil: +49 176 99635238 mailto: s.hoe...@openthinclient.com openthinclient gmbh Heilbronner Str. 150, 70191 Stuttgart, Deutschland Telefon: +49 711 1378636-0 Telefax: +49 711 1378636-9 Amtsgericht Stuttgart: HRB 245 177; USt-ID: DE216017092 Geschäftsführer: Alexander Stecher http://openthinclient.com -- Learn the latest--Visual Studio 2012, SharePoint 2013, SQL 2012, more!
