Hi Benjamin,

i'm afraid you have to ask for a support ticket at openthinclient, as this is
rather network / hardware / client specific and I fear there is not a generic
answer to that.

Cheers,

Hi,

you may configure the shortcut for the terminal emulator at
'desktop'-package. By default the short-cut is Ctrl+Alt+x.

Cheers!

use the file manager to find the executable which will be named

from OTC wiki you should open the terminal by CTRL+SHIFT+X or
CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+X, but none of the combinations are working.

[openthinclient-user] package-development translation to englisch

2014-12-01 Thread Steffen Hönig
Hi folks,

I'm happy to announce that after a wiki-software revamp, we finally
uploaded an updated, thorough help for how to develop packages for the
openthinclient suite . It's not the hardest thing in the world to do,
but many things are just conventional and thus hard to grasp without any
reference. This page is supposed to fill the gap.
I'd be glad to hear from you of things went and if there are issues or
necessary informations lacking. As we do this kind of work almost every
day, you can get, what we call 'betriebsblind' (routine blinded) in
German ;) Whatever exotic package you may try to package on your own,
don't hesitate, feel invited to share with community, write emails to
us, raise pull requests on github.

Happy packaging!

Hi Mahmoud,

When you edit the debian/rules file you must take care of the
indentation of the command black (in my example the do block).

A typical debian target would be %:

target:
do something
do something else
^^

this must be a Tab not Spaces!

Re: [openthinclient-user] Can't mount installed applications on the Thin client

2014-01-16 Thread Steffen Hönig
Dear Mark and Mahmoud,

there is only a limited possibility of providing compatibilities for
the mentioned packages. Due to the different filesystem structure and
python libs, the typical launcher script changed a great deal.

Technically you can mount a v1 package, but as you guys experienced,
the launcher will only work partially if at all.

Greetings from Dresden

case. Looking at the v2 area, it is clear that there is only the
fundamental OTC content there at the moment. I have found that the
following content for sources.list provides the capability to add
applications without upsetting the core components:

 # v1 - needed for packages that don't exist in v2 yet!
 deb http://packages.openthinclient.org/openthinclient/v1/manager ./

 # v2 rolling
 deb
 http://packages.openthinclient.org/openthinclient/v2/manager-rolling ./

However, I have the same issue as Mahmoud when trying to use the
v1repository for FireFox and LibreOffice - the icons appear on the
client desktop but they are not mounted into /opt so do not work. Is
it simply that we can't use v1 packages with v2?

 All the best,

Those keyboard settings can be tricky at times. Just to get things
straight, you need to work out if its a problem with the Linux X11
configuration (check the desired characters on a Terminal) or a rdp issue.

My approach would be something like

a) open a terminal and check the characters,
b) if that doesn't work, try to load the keyboard keymap manually via
setxkbmap br abnt2 and go to a) (for the programmers among us, if you
are on this line for the first time :) )
c) if a) succeded try rdesktop / freerdp,
d) if not, it's more work to do and we are (in the context of the free
support on this list) ouf of game *
e) if it works on linux but not within rdesktop / freerdp you can tweak
the keyboard paramter -k with either pt_BR or none , if that
doesn't work same condition as e)

Sorry but I didn't understand what you try say with special variant.
But here the brasilian portuguese ABNT2 is the most used layout.
I didn't tried a Linux session, but I think is default for all

variant is the X11 idiom for a subclass of a keyboard layout. E.G you
have the same layout with and without dead keays.

Hi Alisson,

you can find repo-links on this page, e. g. for icaclient12:

http://openthinclient.org/download_apps_updates

Just pick the one, you're interested in and edit
/opt/openthinclient/server/default/data/nfs/root/etc/sources.list to
include it. Afterwards it's available via the graphical manager unit.

if I use a Wyse thin client or connect from Windows using Citrix

The problem is when I use the Citrix ICA with OTC. If I connect a pen
drive the OTC desktop recongnize the device and I cant read/write the
files for example, seams that the redirect across the PXE is working.
But when I open the Citrix ICA client, to use the published desktop,
the same USB pen drive doesn't show!
I found this link with a discussion where Zach get a solution updating
the ICA client to version 12. But unfortunately my Linux knowledge to
create a Dev environment is very limited.

So we get a excellent feedback from our client showing the OTC

 of this issue.
If you know a configuration that I can do in ICA client 11 to help us,
 i'll really appreciate.

Re: [openthinclient-user] USB-Redirect Citrix.

2013-10-06 Thread Steffen Hönig
Hi Alisson,

try to be a little bit more verbose. What did you try exactly? Which
kind of device is it? If it's some kind of 'generic' usb-audio-device
there are hints to be found in the eDoc directory of Citrix.

Have a look at http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX123015

 Have anyone already did this?
This configuration is for our call center users where they use a usb

 Sorry for my bad English..
Thank you so much for the help

Re: [openthinclient-user] Fujitsu Siemens Futro S400 AMD Geode 1GHz 256MB compatible?

2013-10-05 Thread Steffen Hönig
Well,

it may boot up somehow, but for sure 256MB Ram will be surely not
enough to provide a satisfying user experience.
My advise would be to go for a terminal server solution then, if you
rely on those clients.

Is it possible to transport CTRL+ALT+F1-10 into an RDP Session.
(VtSwitching is off) its only possible with Citrix session but not
with RDP. Also I would need the use of the Print-Key in the Session.

 Any thoughts?

Hey Mike,

unfortunately it's not possible to update the underlying Ubuntu software
picks by an admin himself. Configs break almost too easily, a apt-get
update apt-get dist-upgrade will not be so easily. It's almost wrong
to describe the Ubuntu OS as _underlying_ OS as it comprises a mix of
different sources: not only four different versions of Ubuntu versions,
custom build (upstream) / programmed software fairly dependant on
everything to be exactly like it is now.

Have a look at [1] and [2] if you are interested in the details, as we
are developing a new release with Debian 7 as userland base!

[openthinclient-user] openthinclient OS v2.0 - early announcement

2013-09-06 Thread Steffen Hönig
Hello,

my name is Steffen Hönig, and I'm developer and project manager with
openthinclient.com.

We are in the midst of a transition to a new, Debian based userland.

While our customers feedback suggests the graphical Java component - the
so-called openthinclient Manager helps people ease their
administrational everyday life, the aging client software
(openthinclient OS) needs an overhaul to say the least.

Hence we are looking for more than updating a bunch of packages, kernels
and so on.

*We ask you to be part of the new release from the very beginning!*
We look for people who'd like to volunteer for openthinclient OS on
several levels. It's kind of an experiment for us too, but if you are a(n)

  *

administrator, hunting for bugs as soon there is an installer
packages available

  *

developer, feeling at home with *bash*or *python*scripts

  *

technically interested user

*Then we'd like to invite you being a part of the new openthinclient OS
project.*

To take part you might choose one of the following actions:

  *

upload proposals for stuff that should be implemented

  *

take part as a developer sending in patches or even ready-made packages

  *

*write*articles on our*wiki *(soon tba!)*
*

  *

general community: work as a moderator on the mailing list

Our first goals in the course of the next few weeks is to rebuild the
openthinclient OS environment with the help of the LINBO building
environment build by Klaus Knopper (knopper.net). Next to a Debian 7
(Wheezy) core the userland will be made of a custom kernel/initrd
package and several python scripts to boot the clients via PXE and mount
the userland images via NFS. The main goal will be to bring as much of
functionality of our release back to be at least on par with the current
feature set as possible.

We'd be eager for people who'd like to be *early-bird testers* or
*scripters*, who are familiar with bash and squashfs alike images to
send us ideas, (or even better) code to improve the development
environment.

For that we will upload our code as soon as something is in the state of
being bootable.

So here is what you can do in a brief summary:

  *

subscribe to our mailinglists and send in ideas no matter what they
target at

  *

help to improve our bilingual wiki pages (address soon to be announced)

  *

write code!
