Thank you for your replies gentlemen. I knew there must be a way to run
the DS2483 in mixed voltage system but that detail in the data sheet
escaped me. I ignored the extra function of the SLPZ pin and tied it
together with Vcc to 3v3, I have now re-wired the device as you
suggested with 5v onto

I did not mean to suggest it would fit the board, and I am sorry to
cause confusion and possibly mislead others. The DS2483 has only 6 pins
and I'll be able to solder it with care onto some of the existing 0.1
pads ok. I just wish it would arrive so I can try it. I have not
My DS2483 sample arrived today so I had to make my Raspi boot the new
kernel to support it. The problem was with the supporting boot files
which needed to be updated, I got them from here:
