On our scripted SP2010 build we slipstream just the SPS SP1 and the SPS August

Also;

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2010 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation
CU. And the SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server CU contains Project

That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2010 product

The last few CUs stopped a number of services and sites for me, which you'll
have to restart on each server, or run the wizard. I'm not sure if the config
wizard does anything else, but I've seen no issues with just restarting things
on my dev boxes - I've not risked that on a prod box yet though!

Hi Paul,

You need to install SP1 but not June Update before installing December CU.

The word cumulative in cumulative update means that a CU contains all earlier
CUs. So December CU contains October, August, ... CUs

Shahram.

I want to upgrade our RTM 2010 server farm to current CU.
Do I need to install SP1 and the June update refresh first?? Or can I just

2012-01-31 Thread Paul Noone
For December there is only a single download for both SPF and SPS.

Can I ask list members whether they've been historically installing just the
uber packages, or both the SPF and SPS installers?

It seems that the product group changed their

months back to say the best practice is to install both.

Hi Shahram,

That was my assumption but I'd really appreciate official confirmation. Can
someone from MS please confirm?

* The HotFix prerequisites state To install this hotfix, you must have
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 OR Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Service
Pack 1

* The HotFix is also over 1GB in size!

Both these facts lead me to assume otherwise but it is not explicitly stated
ANYWHERE.

All I can tell you is that the OWSTIMER keeps crapping out during installation
due to System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException.

Any further advice is much appreciated.

Re: 2010 CUs and SPs

2012-01-31 Thread Dan Sheedy
Hi Paul.

On our scripted SP2010 build we slipstream just the SPS SP1 and the SPS
August 2011 CU.

Also;

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2010 CU contains the SharePoint
Foundation CU. And the SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server CU
contains Project Server CU, SharePoint Server CU and SharePoint Foundation
CU.
That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2010
product family.

AW: 2010 CUs and SPs

2012-01-31 Thread Stefan Goßner
Hi Paul,

I can confirm. You can install the CU either on SP1 or on RTM.
But the CU does not contain SP1.
So if you install the CU without SP1 you have to install SP1 later because CUs
released more than 12 months after SP1 will no longer install if SP1 has not
been installed before.

In addition the SP2010 CU contains the SPF CU.

Thanks guys.

So I can safely install SP1 on top of the December CU? But ideally should have
done this first. :\
