I've never had the pleasure of using a Tascam recorder..but sounds like it'd
be fun (if they weren't too expensive)..as I understand it, they're great
for putting multiple tracks of music (one can do their own one-man-band
thing! So yes..you have my vote!

Hey Gang I think that all that Chris is trying to point out here is: the
library isn't going to tell you' that you can use these players to play
music! This isn't what they were issued for; it just so happens that folks
have figured out that the players will do it!

know for sure..but oh yeah..playing record albums on talking book machines
was a practice that people did a lot! But I'm fairly certain that..if one
had talked with their librarian..I'm sure they would have said Oh no;
you're not supposed to play records on these machines!

supporting member in order to use; I think there may be some other rooms
where this applies..but I can't remember precisely which rooms are affected
off the top of my head.

Well John..in that case, a whole bunch of us should be locked up, for..at
least at the School For The Blind that I attended, people did that sort of
thing on a regular basis..and I don't know that it did any major damage to
records; I did it myself!

As I recall..some of the talking book machines used the diamond needles;
some of them used the Safire needles; usually..I found that the diamond
needles sounded the best! The Safire ones seemed to make the records
sound scratchy!

Hello Norma and list: Yes..that does work. However it's not real
precise..but it can move you through a file; you just have no real way to
tell where you are as you can with Winamp!

Joe: Make sure you have the library feature up by (once you're in
Winamp)..hitting Alt-L..if you've not already tried that, give it a try and

Recorder 8 is now available! I'm currently running Total Recorder 7 (if I

I'm not going to be here! I recently learned (thanks in part to this
list)..learned how to use Total Recorder to change and convert files. But
apparently (as Robert pointed out)..when it comes to changing the bit rate
(if that's the term)..you have more of a margin to work with in Gold Wave!

But that really makes no difference as a sub-woofer only gives you base (and
nothing else! So whether it's in mono or stereo, out of the sub-woofer,
you hear base..either way.

I've found this out for myself)..in the digital world, if you turn the
volume down, it goes down to a point; then just cuts off! It's this way on
my JVC stereo receiver; when it gets to a certain point, instead of the
sound continuing to taper off, it just cuts off completely!

Yeah..and now it doesn't even have that same intensity anymore; when I
listen to a stereo recording, it almost sounds now like the same instruments
are coming through both channels! Not so in the 60s; fact is..if you didn't
have both speakers on, you didn't get all the instrumentation!

This depends upon which version of Windows Media is being used; if it's
Windows Media 11, the volume controls are F8 and F9 (F7 mutes..HTH!

I'm using Windows Media 11...sorry! It works fine..except I don't know how
to make it just rip the tracks I want--smile! In a way, I almost don't mind

I spoke too soon; I can get as far as doing the control-O to open and then
look for my file. But then..once I've found the file, Alt-F does nothing!

I think the command for turning on (or turning off) the Winamp library is
either control-L or alt-L..whichever one it is, it works as a toggle;
hitting it once will turn it on (if it's off)..then if you want to get rid
of it, hit it again..and it'll go away until you want it again. HTH
