Re: MLB game day audio help needed

2008-03-30 Thread Mike Pietruk
Yes, GameDay has switched to SilverLight; MLB was testing this throughout
spring training as an option.
It now appears to be required as it offers visual enhancements.
The biggest problem that I had with SilverLight was getting it installed;
in fact, my sighted wife couldn't figure it out initially either as the
mouse buttons weren't labeled.
Eventually, she decided to just click on things at randomly and got it
that way.

Re: ripping audio

2008-03-30 Thread James Scholes
Hi Rick, Windows Media Player is indeed up to the task, I would rip at 320
kb/ps, 44.1 khz. That's what all my cd's are ripped at. Or, if you want to
save space on your hard drive, then you could go for 256 or even 192 kb/ps,
the quality would still be quite good.

Can rockbox be used to transfer songs from my computer to my gigabite, and
if so do I have to download the entire file or just the portion that refers

though (and I've only taken a quick look) I haven't seen a review of the
Grundig set mentioned here on this list, its quite possible of course that
the set is marketed under a different model number as Grundig certainly

I haven't used the new features enough sadly to give any useful info. I do
like the way the left and right arrow keys now move you through your file.
I like the added marker movements such as control + Shift end to move the
finish marker to the end of the file. Useful when your editing and have
moved the finish marker and want it back out to the end of file.

I need to get on the ball and get a part 7 done that addresses the newest
features of GW.

I've set everything up according to your latest tutorial, rick, and I still

How can I eliminate this problem.

Probably few, except that over the last little while, the designer of Gold
Wave has become quite accessibility-conscious, so has worked to make an
already accessible program even more so. But if you're happy with Sound
Forge, I can think of few incentives to switch.

I think the very best thing about recent versions of GW is the control g go

you specify exactly where to go to.

Just my two cents.

Probably few, except that over the last little while, the designer of Gold
Wave has become quite accessibility-conscious, so has worked to make an
already accessible program even more so. But if you're happy with Sound

2008-03-30 Thread Ray's Home
Can't add much to this as I'm not a Goldwave user at present.

The obvious difference now between the latest version, nine, of Sound
Forge and GW is that SF is now a multichannel recorder. Note,
multi-channel, not multi-track.

Some swear by SN's noise reduction, but then I've not made the
comparison with Goldwave.

Re: CDex Question

2008-03-30 Thread Stephen Green
The only way I know of overcoming this is to do it in two stages.

First, put your CD in the tray and start CDEX - the tray will close and CDEX
will detect the tracks on the disc,

Then press the F10 button on your keyboard and press enter. This tells CDEX
that you want to make a WAV file of the entire CD.

After a few minutes the process will stop and the CD will be ejected.

Now go into the MP3 folder in my music and cut and paste the WAV file into
the folder from which you select files for compression. This may well be
your My Documents folder.

Now restart CDEX and press F11. Select the WAV file you created and press
enter. This then converts the file into a single MP3 file which will play as
if you had the CD in a normal CD player.

The only trouble is that you've now lost the ability to skip between tracks
as there's no indexing within this single file.

This is the only way of ripping a CD so that it plays without annoying split
second disruption between tracks, which is, by the way, actually caused by
the software you use to play the music, as it takes a split second to load
the next track from your hard drive.

HTH

Rick,

Hydrogen Audio has a full discussion on the joint stereo controversy,
including extensive commentary from one of the leading members of the
development teams of the technology. With recent Lame codecs, the
technology has fully matured and I now rip all my stereo CD's at 256 VBR in
joint stereo using Exact Audio copy. Nothing beats EAC at any price.
Joint stereo now offers a better listenable sound with the same or smaller
file size than CBR. Try ripping a few of your favorite albums with EAC
using both and then decide.

 Hi everyone,

 I have about 200 cd's that I ripped back in 2003. I didn't know a lot
about ripping audio then and I used a high priced mp3 ripper from Xing
labs called audio cataylist 2.0 . I ripped everything at 160 k bit joint
stereo 44.1 khz sample rate. I'm seriously thinking about re ripping
all the cd's again. I'm considering WMA lossless, or Mp3 at 320 k bit.
Any suggestions? I hear people say do not do joint stereo? What do you
audiophiles out there suggest? Also is Windows media player up to the
task? I know it can do both mp3 and wma lossless formats.

 Thanks,

 Rick

Re: Rockbox

Rockbox is a replacement for the firmware running on your MP3 player
itself. So, if I understand your question, the answer would be no. It is
not an MP3 player for your PC like winamp or Windows Media Player where
you can organize your music and sync it with a MP3 player.

There's a lot there, but check out rockbox.org for more information.

Re: Portable MP3 Player Question

2008-03-30 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Are you looking for a hardware MP3 player like an iPod or are you
looking for an MP3 player for your PC like Winamp or Windows Media
Player? I'm assuming the former.

Are you looking for anything in particular, such as an off the shelf MP3
player or something designed specifically for the blind? How much
capacity are you looking for?

I personally recommend the 1GB Zen Stone from Creative. It doesn't have
a display, so it's totally accessible. You can also use Windows Explorer
to copy songs to it, so there's no issue with accessible software for
your PC. You can play books on it from Audible.com, Overdrive.com and I
assume other book providers. It costs around $35.

On the downside, it only has 1GB of storage, although I heard you can
get the same model in a 2GB version now. It also only supports MP3 and
WMA (although not lossless WMA).

I personally recommend the 1GB version, although if you can get the 2GB
model, that would work too. Creative has a few MP3 players called the
Zen Stone, like the Zen Stone Plus. These other players include an FM
radio, a voice recorder and they come with a display. I've heard some
blind people report on these lists that they've have trouble with
respect to accessibility with these models and others say they haven't
had any problems with them.

Dan Kerstetter wrote:

Re: MLB game day audio help needed

2008-03-30 Thread patricknc
I only tried it once this evening, but here's what I did. After installing
the Silver Light earlier in the day, first I opened IEwent to mlb.com.
Then I did the ins-f7 and hit A till I got to Audio. Then ins-f7 again and
M till i hit Multimedia guide. Then ins-f7 again and w till I got to WGST
which is what I wanted to listen to. I then had to log in and it came right
in. The audio is no better than it was last year, which is too. bad. I
don't know how to control the player, but I just listen to the games so I
have no reason for further control. I may go back tomorrow and have nothing
work at all, but that's my system that I'll continue to use until it doesnt
work or until the end of the season, whichever comes first. Hope this
helps!

 Hi Mike,

Actually, that's Jeff Bishop who is working on some scripts for
 Window-Eyes,
 among others.

 Darrell

Once installed, SilverLight should give you no hassles.
And, as you are beta writing scripts for the forthcoming WE7, whatever
issues remain (if any) probably can be addressed with that.
