Dane

There are many of these weird things I use the induction loop coils in a
hearing aid for.

I can hear the hard disk of my iriver hard drive booting up for example.
And my cell phone to know if it's starting up or not.

If a normal hearing person can get hold of a small amplifier with an
induction loop built in, you will be able to check all kinds of
interesting things.

Subject: A tip to overcome one of the annoying problems with the Zoom H1

Hi!

Now this tip isn't going to be for everyone as not everyone wears hearing
instruments which can be used with induction loops but if you do? Well
here's a handy way to use your instruments to great effect when sorting
out

one of the very few functions of the Zoom H1 which isn't accessible.

I'm talking about the Bit and Sample rate of the file you're recording,
this

is changed in Standby mode by using the fast forward and rewind buttons,
rewind takes you back through the cycle whilst fast forward takes you
forward through the cycle of bit and sample rates.

When recording using Wave Broadcast format you cycle through 44.1KHZ 16
Bit,

48KHZ 24 bit and so on right the way up to 96KHZ 24 and back to 44.1KHZ 16
bit so how to tell where you are.

Well turn your instruments to pick up induction loops and put the recorder
near them. Now start recording, you'll be able to hear the recorder as it
writes to the SD card and the slower the rate of writing then the small
the

sample size, 44.1KHZ 16 bit has the Zoom H1 writing to the SD card about
every half second whilst 96KHZ 24 bit has the H1 writing to the SD card
every sixth of a second or so.

Just thought others may find this helpful as I do, still haven't worked
out

a way to set the date and time for date/time stamping of recordings but I
have to admit to not trying too hard, after all! one can change all that
when the files are copied from the H1 to your computer.

Hi David,

Go to the rockbox web site and download the rockbox utility. everything can
be done in that program including creating of speaking menu/voice clips of

done so, installing the latest rockbox software etc. the software is quite

I've not experimented much with MP3 files though logic would dictate that the
rate of writing would be smaller, the way I look at things regarding the Zoom
H1 is that I need not bother with MP3, after all! I have a computer which
probably does a far better job than the Zoom H1 does at MP3 encoding smile.

Okay, I have another question.

I know Amazon will let you download individual tracks, I have done that in

Do I look for this somewhere else?

Amazon has a separate section for mp3 downloads. If you go into that
combo box that lists the various departments, and is set to all by
default, select mp3 and type the name of the artist you want. You
should get back a list of all songs that are available by that artist
for mp3 download.

the best thing to do is to search for a song and all instances of the song
will come up. usually you will be told what album the track is from. you
should find something like buy track pertaining to the song. click on it and
you will be able to buy your track. you will see the price of the song such
as $0.99 or so.

Quality of MP3 players

Not bad no! but the Ipod Nano's with their line out dock run a close race with

The best sound quality I've ever got from a stand-alone MP3 player is from my

If so then I would not consider it true line out as you still have all the

Kim,

I'm not sure what the issue with the Amazon Download Manager is that you're
describing. Once you install it, it's operation is pretty much automatic. The
one trick that you have to remember is that instead of clicking on save when
you're getting ready to download an album, you must click open. Once you do
that, the download begins and the files are place in an Amazon folder in the My
Music folder. The Download Manager will also open Windows Media Player to
place a link to the file in the Media Player library.

Hope this helps.

Re: Quality of MP3 players

2010-11-03 Thread Dane Trethowan
The dock socket of the Ipod has a line out yes so you'll need one of the many
docks to use that facility.

Does the ipod have a line out socket or does it take the headphone sound and
convert the impedence to line out?

If so then I would not consider it true line out as you still have all the
 noise from the headphone amplifier.

Is there an ipod with a genuine line out socket on the market? Just
 curious.

Not bad no! but the Ipod Nano's with their line out dock run a close race
with it I have to admit, the generations of Nano up to the third were pretty
 God damn awful.

The Iphone gives a good account of itself too! when compared to the Iriver.
Haven't tried the Nokia N85 or compared it with anything yet but - if my
Nokia N95 is any guide - then its not even in the race, convenient MP3
player perhaps but not great sound quality.

The best sound quality I've ever got from a stand-alone MP3 player is from
my all-singing all-dancing Pioneer DVD player I purchased 6 years ago and I
paid an arm for at the time, $700.00 but of course that's not comparable to
what we're discussing as you can't move it around smile.

Re: Purchasing Music

2010-11-03 Thread Kris Hickerson
Thanks, Mary. I did that and apparently the song I want is not available
for download. The entire album is vailable both as a download and to
purchase and have it mailed to you. But when I put in the song I wanted, it
said no
results found. So I guess I'll have to look elsewhere.

goldwave tutorials?

2010-11-03 Thread john schwery
Does anyone know where i can get help with
Goldwave? Manuals, tutorials and so on? We
bought a USB turn table, and Ion Iprofile. I can
record with it but have no way of hearing what is
being recorded, yet. Maybe, I can get some
speakers plugged into the rca leads on the unit.

Dane

So if I understand you correctly then the ipod has both a headphone and a
line out socket?

Andre

You understand me correctly however the Line out can only be accessed through
the dock connector.
