My question, do I need to know if the person has plus or minus on there PC, or does it matter with mp3s. I am trying to resolve any compatibility issues, thank you. Re: Difference between cds for recording music and cds for recordingdata
hello, there are 2 types of blank cd-r. 1. cdr-da. or music cd-rs. these are for consumer based recorders, there is no difference in quality. only price. all professional cd recorders should take the data type of cd-rs and you can use them for both music and data recording. the consumer recorders like philips, sony makes one, are not worth buying. because you are stuck using the consumer cd-r da. cdrs only. a data type of cd won't work in those recorders. 2 good brands that are used for music are taiyo yuden and mitsui. hope this helps. les - Original Message - From: Gary Schindler garys5...@comcast.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, December 29, 2008 9:45 AM Subject: Re: Difference between cds for recording music and cds for recordingdata these tyopes of discs are used for recorders that require music cd's. this is how the ptr-2 knows how to set itself up for the proper recording you want to do with it. if you were to put a data cd in the ptr-2 you could burn mp3 files on to it for playback on a machine that plays mp3 files. - Original Message - From: André van Deventer andred...@webafrica.org.za To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, December 29, 2008 9:26 AM Subject: Difference between cds for recording music and cds for recording data Hi to all What exactly is the difference between blank cds that you record music onto and blank cds you use for recording data on? scott, i am not sure, because i am just sticking to itunes. what you could do is download itunes. its free. and then look at the db. setting to see the name, then try to cutpaste the db name and place into your other ap. that may work. thanks les Cd/Dvd Duplication Custom Printing Customer Service Les Gordon Phone: (267)329-8150 email: sa...@cdrdvdr.com web: http://www.cdrdvdr.com - Original Message - From: Scott Blanks captaincyn...@gmail.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, November 16, 2009 12:48 PM Subject: Re: Windows Media Player not recognizing various cd's Les, Can you only utilize this db through the ITunes program? Is this based upon the databases accessed by the two applications? Is there a way to enhance Windows Media to be more productive in this regard? I use WMP to rip discs, and would like it to automatically identify the artist/title being ripped. On perhaps a dozen occasions over the past week, Winamp correctly labels the album, but WMP cannot do so. I have WMP set to go on-line and retrieve additional details. hello, a few things to consider, you want to use duplication grade cd-rs. there higher quality then what stores offer. and also your burner you want to check its firmware to make sure you have the latest installed. the firmware of the drive and blank media type can make a big difference. re-writable cds are more sensative if you get finger prints on those, they end up having more problems then regular cds do. hope some of this helps. thanks les. It would be a stand alone unit, similar to a Tascam 2488, Korg D3200, etc. For every button you push, or menu for editing you move to, it would always speak, to let you know where you are. I've contacted Tascam, let them know my idea, they're interested, but wonder how many blind people would buy one. A stand alone unit would be more stable than a Mac or PC based software set up, and much less costly. I'd like to compile a list of all interested individuals. If I can show Tascam, or Korg, or Yamaha, that such an item would have marketability, development may take place. I mentioned Victor Stream and Book Sense and Olympus as examples. The technology exists, it's just a matter of putting it in one unit. We just need to convince the right manufacturer that speech added to a multi track recorder is worth their time producing one. I would also like to propose this idea to other blind community users groups. The more blind individuals alerted to this idea, the more I can show manufacturers that this will sell. johnnyru...@windstream.net To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
digital multi track recorder
one thing i was thinking, having a voice on a multitrack recorder i wouldnt think would be that difficult because it could be a chip. and tascam could have a option to turn it on or off. then the recorder could be used by anyone. they wouldnt have to worry about having a model that is for the blind only. it could be incorperated into a standard version or model. hopefully the companies will address this. whoever does they will sell a ton of them. hi, i agree about itunes, theres parts of it thats not accessible that well. but to rip or import cds into a hd it works perfect for that. i have no problems. flac is great of course, and yes lossless quality, but not as compatable with blu-ray players for playback, wave format is much more compatable between players computers. thats why i went with putting my music in wave format. I don't know if exact audio copy will handle flac, but I'd not be surprised if it did. It's most likely the best for ripping cds, because of it's exacting standards. I now have a number of these in my collection, not many but I'm in no doubt that the Not Many total will expand to something like Quite A Few in the not to distant future. There's nothing worse than having a small Bluray collection and no player to play them on so I started shopping. I tried one of the cheap Samsung players, seemed to work well however I had to wait! quite lengthy periods for the machine to Boot. A friend of mine suggested what should have been very obvious at the start of this exercise, I had a HP Entertainment PC which just happens to feature a Bluray capable drive so why not play the movies on that? as it happens the machine can be hooked up easily to my surround-sound via the use of a HDMI cable from the HDMI port of the PC to a HDMI port on my surround-sound receiver so I get all the great benefits of Bluray High Definition surround-sound audio as well as the video, well I don't directly benefit from the video but I'm sure you get my drift. anyone once plugged in and set up I was pleasantly surprised, computer handles the discs far faster than does the Samsung, I'm so disgusted with the Samsung to be honest that I'll be taking the player back from where I bought it from and that's something I very rararely do. Perhaps the $800.00 Samsung player would have been faster though at $800.00? Well that's nearly what I paid for this HP Entertainment PC, I've pasted the specs as follows for your interest. snip product name: DV6-2119tx product number: wf606pa Processor: 1.6ghz Core I7 720QM (6mb cache). memory: 4gb (Max 4gb). Graphics: nvidia gt230m (1gb dedicated ram). display: 15.6in (1366x768). hard drive: 640gb (5400rpm). Optical drive: Blueray RW+dvd Super Multi. modem: 56kbps fax/modem. Network: 10/100/1000mbps. Wireless: 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1. Sound: SRS Premium Sound (Altec Lansing speakers). Built inn digital tv tuner. keyboard/trackpad: standard keyboard plus numeric keypad, multitouch trackpad. slots: pc card (expresscard 54/34) integrated card reader (sd/mmc/ms/mspro/xd). ports: 4 usb 2.0 (1 shared with ESata), VGA, HDMI, IEEE1394 (firewire), RJ11 (network)/rj45 (modem), 2 headphone out, microphone in, consumer ir, digital antenna. operating system: windows 7 Home premium 32 bit. Also includes Targus premium leather carry case snip Now obviously that was a second-hand bargain I got myself for a grand, talk about give away smile. I chose this model because it had the built-in video tuner which works a treat with Windows Media Centre, I purchased a Windows 7 64-bit upgrade kit for an additional $30.00. This model is around 12 months old and the later models lack some features such as the video tuner, fax modem etc which made this machine even more attractive still, only real problem with it is the battery life which is very small and yep! the later models of HP have this problem dealt with but I figured that as I'm usually near a power outlet then battery life wouldn't worry me all that much and in any case, if I wanted portable power I had plenty of other things to do the job here like the Asus EEEPC Netbook etc. sent from my HP Powerhouse Notebook. Re: Burning Cds Troubles!
hello, your pushing the limit when you use 702mb of space for a cd. the space on a cd can vary by just a little, also the leadout takes up space too. you could try a restart, but the safest point would be keeping it to 700mb at the most. if you have specific software you might be able to overburn the cds but thats not stable either. if restart doesnt fix the problem try a different software package to burn. i burn copy and edit cds and dvds for my work everyday, so i can help you resolve your problem. thanks les Cd/Dvd Duplication Custom Printing Customer Service Les Gordon Phone: (267)329-8150 email: mr...@comcast.net web: http://www.cdrdvdr.com - Original Message - From: Marvin Hunkin startrekc...@gmail.com To: Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, November 26, 2011 12:08 AM Subject: Burning Cds Troubles! I can sedn 1 to you using Dropbox though you'll need some CD ripping software at the other end - in other words on your computer - to burn the CD, I recommend Exact Audio Copy or Easy CD DA extractor. So once you pop this CD into a DVD player - most are equipped with DTS decoders - you'll be able to enjoy the CD in multi channel audio, surround-sound, call it what you will. hi, right now i am running a onkyo 9.2 system and the extra speakers are clearly worth it. if a dvd isnt 7.1 or 9.2 recorded, the receivers can convert to whatever format your running. the sound is absolutely amazing. what i'd suggest is take 2 or 3 of your favorite movies if you have bluray and go to a store that has 7.1 or higher receivers setup and listen for yourself. i am super picky with quality of the sound, and i'm super glad i made the upgrade. right now i'm running a 9.2 setup. theres front high channels and rear center channels then your effect channels. the sound quality is dependent upon the dvd. if you want to test a system. the roy orbison dvd called black white night is beyond amazing. you hear sounds from every speaker/channel, the regular dvd as well as the blu ray is just beyond amazing. if you love that type of music thats a must to have. We all know the movie was recorded in 5.1, there fore there are only 5 different files assigned to the 5 different speakers. They didn't really add anything new assignments for the 2 extra, so I guess what they are saying even with your example is you are hearing the same thing you've always heard out of the 2 side speakers I guess it would be, but now from the back too? I don't know, like I have said, I haven't really experienced this my self. My friend who has a 7.1 system lives too far to just say, let's go over to Tims and see what's true and what's not. itunes will not add song info if it only says track 01. it works off a online database for music if the cd your importing as its info on it track name artist ect, then itunes will pick it up and each track will be labeled correctly. itunes alows you to set the option for import automatically when you put in a cd. for me it works great. - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan"To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Thursday, December 24, 2015 1:19 AM Subject: Re: I'm looking for software that will scan an mp3 file and fill inthe tag info the way Winamp did. It says that it can only sync with one iTunes library at a time. Or at least, that's how the message sounds to me. It sounds rather ominous. I don't want to lose absolutely everything on my phone just to add a few ringtones. That seems rather silly to me. I know a lot of you guys on here use macs, but remember, this is in Windows 10, using the most recent version of iTunes, screenreader is Window-eyes 9.4.0. Is it safe to hit the remove and sync button, or if I do that, will the only thing that's removed are the tones? If all it'll remove is my current batch of tones that's ok, but my concern is losing everything else such as apps, and music. I'm a bit lost to tell you the truth. I hope someone has experience with this. Thanks for any help, guys!
Re: Now I know why music on the Apple TV 3rd Gen doesn't sound sogood...
i have a apple tv 3rd gen and 4th gen. what i noticed is the sound quality is all dependent upon the original source. they give alot of free radio stations that are great, but it tells you the quality of each and some are streaming in low quality audio. others are in high quality. i noticed a clear difference in the sound. - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan"To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Thursday, February 04, 2016 4:06 PM Subject: Re: Now I know why music on the Apple TV 3rd Gen doesn't sound sogood... Well to be perfectly honest that’s Apple for you and where would you find any serious audio reviews about anything Apple? Okay, I did find plenty of reviews and information regarding the audio for my 2012 Mac Mini machine but Apple just won’t release too much information about anything else it seems when it comes to audio. I’m glad you mentioned that about the Apple TV and now I’m having second thoughts about that purchase for myself too. This is the equivalent to transcoding on the fly which is inevitably going to sound terrible. The thing is, I really love the new Apple music service and I am tempted to buy the Apple TV 4th Gen in order to use the service with my living room system. But once bitten, twice shy. I haven't been able to find out if it handles music in the same way. I haven't even been able to find any serious reviews of its audio quality. nero blu-ray burning
does anyone on the list use nero for burning blu-ray content? before when i would use nero video and add files to the project, then select do not create a menu, each file would have its own chapter so you could skip from 1 file to the next. now when i make a recording it just creates one big file without any chapter marks. does anyone have any suggestions? thanks les Sales & Customer Service Duplication & custom Printing Les Gordon ph: (866)356-2602 fx: (866)259-5876 email: mr...@comcast.net Ebay Id: mrdvd05

Re: Apple TV 4th Gen
mary, with the new apple tv you can use the hdmi and if connected to a surround sound receiver you do not need to have your tv on. you can just listen to the audio through the receiver. also the problem with voice over cutting out. the software could be corrupted and might need a fresh install of software. a full factory reset can sometimes fix those problems. i have the apple tv 3rd gen and also 4th gen and never any problems with voiceover cutting out. - Original Message - From: "Mary Otten"To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Tuesday, February 16, 2016 3:50 PM Subject: Re: Apple TV 4th Gen Hi John, Your observation about the remote being easy to use is interesting. I think you are the first one who hasn't encountered a significant learning curve, especially when it comes to actually having to type something in, such as a mixed case alphanumeric password. I'm holding out for bluetooth keyboard access, which is supposedly coming with the next major release of tv os, if I can believe what I read in the mainstream Apple-oriented press. That deal where voice over cuts out has happened to me with a 2nd generation apple tv. It happened a lot and only quit happening when we experimented and connected the apple tv directly to the hdmi in on our tv, rather than going through an a/v surround receiver or even a sound bar. When connected directly to the tv, the voiceover cut out problem completely disappeared. Unfortunately, that also meant the rest of the sound from the apple tv went to the tv speakers, which are God awful. Just food for thought. And I have heard others report varying results with the voiceover cut out problem. Some have it. Others don't. And I haven't a clue why. I do have a question. Can you connect the apple tv 4th generation and use all of its features without actually having a tv in the mix? As an example, with my 2nd generation product, it was not possible to watch netflix unless the tv was actually turned on. Netflix would not play. There may have been others too, but Netflix is the one I specifically remember. So even though I didn't need the picture, the tv had to be physically on, not just the surround receiver and speakers. sometimes apps can be slightly different on various devices or set top boxes. functionality may also vary slightly between devices too. the reason is because of the software that runs the device or box. the app has to be configured to work with that specific device. - Original Message - From: "Mary Otten"To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Friday, February 19, 2016 12:00 PM Subject: Re: Sony Android TV Was Apple TV 4th Gen Interesting. The people I've heard complaining about netflix on set top boxes don't have issues with it on actual android phones or tablets, just on the set tops, such as the older google Nexus. So I wonder why it works on some and not others, especially the nexus brand. There has been speculation that the app on the set top box is not the same app as on devices such as nexus 9 tablet, obtained from the playstore. hi dane, when i right click on anydvd in the tray it just takes me to system settings for windows. there has to be something i'm missing. - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan" <grtd...@internode.on.net> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" <pc-audio@pc-audio.org> Sent: Sunday, October 30, 2016 2:02 PM Subject: Re: Ripping DVD'S usin Windows I've tried this method with both Window-Eyes and NVDA. Press Windows-B, that brings up the System Tray and you may have to check that additional notifications are displayed, that's usually the first option, it appears as a check-box. Move down the list till you come to Any DVD and then use the context key or rout the mouse to the Any DVD icon and right click on it. From here you'll see a menu with various options which include Rip DVD to Hard Drive. I'm off to demo two Wireless Speaker systems on the weekend and both are from Polk Audio, the Omni S2 and the Omni s6. The S2 is the portable Wi-Fi player and the S6 is the premium "Stand-alone" offering. Both these Speaker units have the Play-Fi Wireless Open eco system built-in so that makes them truly flexible and able to play high quality audio such as HD, High res etc. Being Play-Fi compatible means that these spekaer units can be used as multi room components. The S2 portable runs on a rechargeable battery and has Bluetooth streaming as well as the aforementioned Play-Fi streaming. The S6 can have Bluetooth added with the addition of a USB Bluetooth adapter, I'm not sure whether this adapter is a specific Polk Audio item or readily available off the shelf so to speak, I hope my questions will be answered on Saturday. Whilst both the S2 and S6 can obviously join a Wi-Fi network I also know that - again with the help of a USB adapter - the S2 can be wired to a LAN if you'd prefer. Polk Audio have several devices in the Omni line-up, a Pre-amp, a Soundbar and an adapter that can be connected to an existing system to enable Play-Fi compatibility. More details next week. -- ** "Live each day as if you were goiing to die tomorrow, learn each day as if you were going to live forever"
