Forgot to mention the rx10 has enough resolution and less noise to crop the bird pics, the nikon doesnt. Also birds in flight is easy with the rx10 and impossible with the nikon. Maybe I should try the rx10 ;) And If you try the g9 and 100 400 leica you are sold. On Sat, 12 Mar 2022, 06:25 Toine,

OT: The vagaries of rainfall

2022-03-11 Thread Alan C
The 65 year average seasonal rainfall for Phalaborwa is 540mm. Higher global temperatures allows the air to hold more water vapour and therefore the rainfall would be expected to increase. We had 730mm in 2019/20 & 947mm in 2020/21. This season seemed to be following the same trend with 627mm

Some actual measurements: My K-5, without lens or strap, weighs 0.8 kg = 1.76 lb. My 17-70 lens weighs 0.51 kg = 1.12 lb. So, my usual walking-around setup is 1.3 kg = 2.86 lb. Until two or three years ago, my walking-around bag had the K-5, 17-70, 50-200, and 10-17 fisheye. That’s too much

According to Sony the DSC-RX10 weights 1.095g (2lb 5oz). A K-5 weighs 750g (1lb 10.5oz), so even with a 50mm/f1.4 it weighs slightly less than the Sony. A K-5 with the 60-250 zoom does weigh just about twice what that Sony weighs. The Sony, though, has a sensor even smaller than a 4/3 sensor

One option which I have somewhat adopted is to stop using “big glass.” E.g., on our recent trip, I did not take the 70-200 or the 15-30 zooms. Instead I took an A-20mm, 28-70/2.8, and 100 macro. And an A-200mm. I did take extenders (1.4 and 1.7) for the 100mm and 200mm in case I needed longer,
