All,
For what it's worth, it looks to me like the problem is more than just one
Norwegian user and a bunch of me too's. For example, here's a thread
over
at pentaxforums.com that highlights
exhibit this
problem because I haven't gone looking for it. Best can easily
become an enemy of the good enough.

the ability to instantly magnify images to 100% on the screen and
beyond may be part of the problem.

These kind of reports surface with the release of every lens. I
suspect that it's usually a matter of bum photographers purchasing them.

Determining and accepting quality issues is the problem. Negative
perceptions of image issues are often difficult to convey to others.
Especially those who are in a prove it position.
Blatant image or operational issues are a different matter.

A Norwegian guy reported to DPreview about uneven sharpness across the
frame. Sounded like some sort of collimation/calibration issue to me.
As you can expect from that lot, there were immediately others crying
that they too had the same issue.

DA* 16-50 F2.8 lenses. Can anyone on the list report how well (or not)
Pentax USA has been dealing with the issue? If you get a bum copy, does
Pentax USA fix it under warranty? Or is buying one a roll of the dice?

has been just fine so can't comment on quality issues or Pentax
response. It is a great lens.
