Re: An opinion: How much better can things get?
I don't know. I think we're spoiled. Sure small sensor cameras lack dynamic range, when compared to larger formats, but compare any format larger than 1" to 35mm slide film. Even 35mm reversal film didn't have 13+ stops of dynamic range. Most of my Pentax digital gear had problems as did one of my Nikon's the dreaded D2H, the Edsel of Nikon's. My problem is i have mostly consumer grade Pentax leses and for the most part are ok, but i still get a more OOF or softer images than i think i should. I have more "pro" lenses for my nikon equipment and the AF is lighting fast with them. Very few missed shots. Re: K-1 Autofocus
Yes, I feel your pain because I've felt the same way since I bought my first SLR: a Pentax ME-Super with a 50mm 1.4 lens. While it seemed to be a great body, too many of my pics were not exposed right. When I borrowed a friends Nikon FE (or FM) + 50mm 1.4 lens, I was shocked at the perfect exposures and beautiful renditions. I almost jumped to Nikon, but the system was so much more expensive to my college tastes than Pentax. Nope, it's a New Haven Elevator Co. product, actually installed in New Haven. Mostly original equipment from 1926. The successor company, OTIS is still in Connecticut some place.
