Cleaning out my inbox ... I finally figured out why I was using the disposable camera. It was left over from the previous day's white-water rafting trip. Bought 2 but only had time to use 1. Paul, I am glad that you didn't experience problems with them. In part, it is my lack of proper checking. I was very short on time, and I just assumed that they can work with standard color profiles. How naive I was! For comparison, - as far as I remember, Mpix uses color profiles and even provide their printer profile for soft-proofing. Re: First 24x36 digital
Same as mine but a decade newer. A delightful lens. Come to think of it, I received this lens in the original box with the hood and caps, so I didn't pay extra for the hood ... although I did pay a little extra for the original box, etc. I'll make sure to not lose the lens hood..! Bob's is the "full featured" version of the typ 262. Mine is the stripped down model ... no LCD, no menus, no settings other than date, time, and the usual focus and exposure settings. It costs a little more but it's worth it. ;-) G On Jul 11, 2016, at 01:03 PM, Larry Colenwrote: Bob W wrote: A few weeks ago I bought a used Leica M typ-262, which is my first 24x36mm digital camera. Apart from the first, and the 'Discover Greenwich' one where I slightly adjusted the verticals, these are uncropped. Some of the shadows are deep enough to pretty much lose detail on my display. One of the joys of the 24x36 sensor is the latitude of adjustment available to you. It would be interesting to compare sensor performance, workflow, and ISO invariance between the Leica and the K-1. I can certainly see the advantage of the stripped down system and simpler menus. I can also see advantage of one of the menu items being the option of enabling all of the other menu items that have been stripped out. Godfrey's MD is even more stripped down than mine - it doesn't have a screen, therefore no menus at all, just iso, shutter speed, shutter release, aperture and focus. Lovely. Some bits do cost an inordinate amount of money, while others are amazingly reasonable. Most extreme case I've run into was my ca 1959-1960 Hektor 135/4.5: the lens cost me $175 in near mint condition, but finding the correct cap and lens hood for it was nearly another $90. "Modern age common culture is built upon progressive disregard of human factor and hence reliance of gear/automatics/you name it". Boris, you've hit the nail on the head. When I started out in analytical chemistry half a century ago, one needed very good bench skills to get acceptable results. Today, analysts don't even need to know much about chemistry - the "machines" do all the work. The golden age of chemistry has passed. Long live the "nice" cameras. Which, I am telling you, will be met with a wide smile... However, more than once I was told that I must be professional photographer or that my pictures look professional. This is always met with a strong denial. However, I oftentimes use: "Oh no, it is my gear that is so good at making pictures" lame excuse that fascinatingly works more often than not. Re: First 24x36 digital
Thanks. Glad to hear you bought the MD, and looking forward to seeing what you do with it. I'm mooching around central London today, taking snaps in more traditional London light, more accurately rain at the time of writing. I thought about the MD while chimping, and decided that it would be nice not to have the temptation there. I popped into the Leica pushers earlier to see if I could get a decent replacement for the 35/1.4 hood. It turns out that even in battered condition like mine they are very sought after, so I guess I'll get my blacksmith to beat it back into shape. Typical Leica. A very touching story, Paul, and always tough to say good-bye. She’s lucking to have such a loving grandfather. She’ll never forget the loving home she had with you and your wife. PESO: Regal in Red
Spent a lot of time in the yard with my camera yesterday. Good therapy. This guy was fairly distant, and this is only about 40% of frame, but it seems to have held up well. K-1 with DFA 150-450 and DA 1.4X converter. I find the vignetting is minor with this rig, so I’m shooting in full frame mode. Hi Bob, Good stuff! I'm glad you're enjoying the M262. I am similarly delighted with the M-D262 … There's something utterly liberating about going out with a camera for which there are no settings other than the traditional settings of focus and exposure (ISO, aperture, time). It works just the way my head wants a camera to work so much of the time. I look forward to seeing more. :-) G > On Jul 10, 2016, at 1:38 PM, Bob Wwrote: > > A few weeks ago I bought a used Leica M typ-262, which is my first 24x36mm > digital camera. Re: Card Readers
OK, so I was wrong, well at least out of date. My information was as of several months ago. I've been looking for one of these myself, and I'm now aware of at least two other options that are true USB 3.0 readers. The front panels of all of them show pretty much the same card slots in the same arrangements, probably the same components if not the same complete readers. You can spend a lot more or a bit less, the only difference seems to be that the newer readers can transfer files directly between cards. Where as the Roswell unit I reverenced at Amazon cannot. I suspect it's a firmware rather than hardware issue. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D31V2L8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8=1=A29Y8OP2GPR7PE Which is the one I'm thinking of getting. I know it looks cheep but with electronics I find that you often don't get what you pay for, you often get a lot less. On 7/10/2016 10:45 PM, P.J. Alling wrote: The only internal card reader that actually supports USB 3.0 is this one available on Amazon.
