I don't know offhand what it weighs but it is substantial. I took off the Bogen (Manfrotto) head that it came with and put a Wimberley gimbal on it and have more or less dedicated it to my 600mm. To be fair to Manfrotto, I have their 028 Triman, and it seems solid enough and the leg locks are a simple grub screw style. I haven't tried the twist test with it. I probably haven't used it in 20 years. I mihht try twist testing my Feisol tripods and see how they fare. The Tournament is very lightly built. I find it very frustrating that there are not any standard metrics for how well tripods actually work. I suspect that “weight capacity” on tripods is kind of like the “max power” of stereos. Yeah, it’s 100W, but that’s at 20%THD into 2 Ohms. Even so that doesn’t measure stiffness, dampening etc. much less separating the effects of the head from the base. It’s also hard to get a simple comparison across different models, the ads tend to be good at obfuscating what I’m looking for. I may need to simply put together a spreadsheet that compares everything. The Vanguard Veo might be interesting. There is also a Sirui(?) that’s only $100 that might work as an interim solution. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com. sent from ret4est -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Put a camera with a longer lens on top, then grip the camera, rotate it around its vertical axis and watch how the legs bend around. This holds true for many tripods with tube-stye legs but seems to be worst with Manfrotto. I'm using a Berlebach wood tripod. Admitedly nothing you'd want to take along for air travel (although I've done just that) but it's the only tripod I know that doesn't weight a ton and can be used with long lenses even in gale-force winds. And it won't slide down when fixed, as happened so often with twist lock.. Henk I did exactly the opposite. I had a Manfrotto 055 which I could never get the lever locks to work right. If they were adjusted so that when engaged the legs wouldn't collapse under the weight of the camera, they wouldn't allow the legs to loosen enough to be collapsed, and if the levers were adjusted so that the legs could be extended or retracted, the legs would collapse under the weight of the camera. The thing was pretty much unusable because of the craptastic lever locks. It could just be that Manfrotto is the General Motors of tripods, but my experience with the 055 was such that when I went looking for a replacement, lever locks were at the top of my avoid this crap list and Manfrotto was not on my radar at all. The twist locks on the Feisol tripods are secure and are easy to adjust. Both my Traveller and my somewhat (well, a lot ) heavier Tournament tripods have never had any issues with leg creep. The only thing I don't like about mine is that if the lower locks are tightened more than the upper ones the entire inner lower leg will twist when trying to loosen the lock rather than allowing the lock to loosen. The new ones have corrected this problem as the leg sections will no longer twist inside the upper sections. I've never had a problem with dirt jamming up any tripod, but my experience in this regard might be unique. bill -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: Travel tripod suggestions?
Collapsed it's the smallest of all full size tripods. If you don't like the PD concept of capture plates connected on their bags and the camera straps (which connect to their plates) the tripod on itself is a strange beast with a very annoying head if you don't have pd plates on everything. I got hooked to the PD (capture) system after that the tripod had to come next, just in case I need a tripod (which I hate to use and even more hate to carry around). You can swap the head and mount any tripod head, if that's the case a travel tripod from sirui or manfrotto makes more sense and probably is smaller once collapsed On Fri, 20 May 2022 at 08:59, Larry Colen wrote: > > > > On May 19, 2022, at 11:22 PM, Toine wrote: > > > > Carbon is less weight. Carbon is less weight. The rest is identical its both so light weight the bag hook is really needed in windy conditions. I have the carbon version and to my surprise the center column is solid metal, its so small carbon wouldnt work On Fri, 20 May 2022, 05:44 Larry Colen, wrote: > > > > On May 17, 2022, at 11:27 PM, Toine wrote: > > > > If I use a tripod its PD.
