PESOs: Backyard Birds

2024-04-29 Thread paul stenquist
Finally getting back to shooting a few birds. A nice morning here, so I sat
outside for a bit. The pair of Cardinals are either expecting or doing amazing
ritual, but the male has a seed that he will give to the female. The last one
is a white throated sparrow. I only see these in spring. I think they go
further north for the summer.

out, I may be posting soon!

aluminum stroked Dart 302. 365 cid, 575 horsepower, 5-speed Tremac, beautiful
aftermarket suspension. Owner says it handles like a go-kart. He just runs
track days. It’s the owner’s vision of an improved Shelby 350 GTR.

I will render a “before” with normal conversion but no haze filter when I have

Re: Slide scanners

2023-05-01 Thread Paul Stenquist
I scan slides on my Epson V850 Pro flatbed scanner. It has slide holders that
position the slides correctly and hold about a dozen at a time. I find that
automating slide scanning isn’t very efficient as exposures vary. I have the
same storage as you: binders with slide holder pages. But i scan only the best
and others as needed. Scanning all seems a formidable task, given that you’ll
also have to render each scan to get an excellent result. The epson will scan
them at 4900 dpi native, generating very nice hi-kres files.

Re: How large is too large...

2023-02-17 Thread Paul Stenquist
I should clarify that about half of those are backups, so I have only about 3
terabytes of unique images. I don’t know how many that would be, but it
includes a lot of unprocessed DNGs and a tiff and jpeg of each rendered image.
So it’s irrelevant in comparison to a lightroom catalog. But the system works
very well.

My sharpest lens may be the D FA 70-200/2.8, or it might be the K 28/3.5. Hard
to say definitively. But I know which one is more expensive! And heavier.

I turned to Pentax many years ago because I had some screw mount lenses. This
group undoubtedly has had much to do with keeping me in the fold. But hard to
argue with the quality of the glass.

I’ve been through four mac computers since I bought my first Spyder about 20
years ago. No software problems I render photos for publication on a regular

with the magazine guys I work with.

The point of any game is enjoyment. In this case with others.
It’s true that the game on which Monopoly was based — The Landlord’s Game — was
meant to teach economic lessons but that purpose was long ago abandoned on the
trash heap of Victorian moral excessiveness.

Drives don’t have to be Mac specific. Most suppliers will describe their drives
as PC or Mac. Amazon has good deals, and they accept returns for cash or
replacement, no questions asked.

Had some decent weather Sunday and I’m relatively free of maladies, so I
ventured out to shoot a few birdies from my deck yesterday. All with the K-3, F
DA 150-450 and DA 1.4X converter. That gear gives me the FOV of a 940 mm lens
on 35 mm.

ZRe: My journey down the slippery slope continues ...

2022-04-08 Thread Paul Stenquist
I too always take two cameras when shooting for a client. Now it’s a K-1 and a
K-3. I can fit both and about ten lenses in a pelican case, but it’s pretty
damn heavy. That’s okay when I’m working out of the trunk of a car , which is
almost always. My list of cameras owned is similar. I still have at least a
dozen that are functional.

Re: Lightroom Classic ransomware first impressions

2022-01-24 Thread Paul Stenquist
I’ve been using subscription photoshop for several years now and live it. I
have the ten bucks a month on autopay and don’t really notice it. And rhe
software is great. No problems, no upgrade worries. And it runs flawlessly in
my 2015 4//cot, 4-gig I-7 32 gig iMac 27. I would nevertheless want to go back
to software in a box.
