Did I?

I have an Apple computer I use occasionally. I mainly use Windoze
because I can build my own.

Due to familiarity, I do find Windoze computers easier to use than using
a Mac. If I used a Mac all the time and seldom used Windoze, I'd find
the Mac easier to use.

I know I don't want an iPhone. Don't want an Android phone either. Nor a
Windoze phone. Or any kind of smart phone. I've already got a phone that
allows me to do everything I want to do with a phone. Got that covered.

I'm thinking about a small pad I can use to show my photos when I get
together with other photographers at a weekly brunch.

New iPads are likely out of my price range, but an older one might work
if it has USB and/or SDHC. I've noticed *all* of the current pad
offerings only have micro-SDHC.

And I'm resigned that any kind of pad I get is going to have a touch
screen, even though I came to loathe them when I was running the mini-lab.

I had the same aggravation continuously having to clean grubby
fingerprints off the glass on the scanner, and I hated that too.

But I still bought one when I wanted to be able to scan medium/large format
negatives/transparencies and old photos.

The Galaxy Tab is a very nice piece of kit, especially if you don't
want to buy into the apple fan club.  My wife has one, and it's all
but impossible to pry it out of her hands.

My little buddy was a brown, and as big as a smallish cat. Word on the

I ditched my iPhone about a year ago for a BlackBerry Classic and
haven't looked back :-)  No nagging update messages, it does everything
I need a phone to do (calls, texts, email and some web). I have an iPad
Mini 2 for other stuff and it works just fine for what I need a bigger
screen for (navigating, banking, music, pics, web etc). And the MacBook
Pro for the big stuff.

The BB syncs all my contacts and dates with the other devices really
well and has loads of things an iPhone doesn't, like *expandable memory*
(holy mackerel) and a real tactile keyboard. Going from Palms to iPhone
in 2007 I didn't realise how much I disliked a virtual keyboard until I
left it behind.

And for the record, always go red squirrel - even though the bristles on
the greys are better...

I use it mainly as my ebook reader (with the Kindle app) - it's about
the same size as a dedicated Kindle reader.  It also serves as a sat nav
unit when travelling, a remote shutter release for my E-M10 and lots of
other users.

I paid $A99 so it should be even less in $US.

I've also got an ASUS transformer.  It's actually my second one, my 
first one got crunched when something heavy got put on it.  Oops.
Ir's an older Android based one, and was available pretty cheaply used, 
on ebay or somesuch.  It's nice in that it can be used as either a 
tablet, or as a rudimentary laptop.  For me, having a real keyboard is a 
major plus.  I bought my first one for showing photos, and it can work 
pretty well for that, although I'm not super thrilled with the photo 
display apps available.


While I'm generally quite pleased with OSX, IOS has always hated me. 
It's one advantage is that there are many apps written for it, that are 
not available on android.  However, as mentioned the transformer has 
slots for both micro SD and SD cards, which means that as long as you 
don't need to show everything all at once, it's storage is effectively 
unlimited, unlike apple products where you have to pay out the nose up 
front for any storage you might ever possibly want.

I have an ASUS "ZenPad 8" and it's just brilliant. Ridiculously
high-res display, expandable storage (with micro SD card slot - I
added 128 gig) and an OTG-compatible micro USB jack, so I can plug in
a standard USB thumb drive via OTG cable and copy files back and
forth.

And iPad is my most used computer nowadays. I use it for almost everything that 
isn't my main image processing system. I'm typing this note on it right now. 

- Screens inevitably get dirty; you clean them. 
- The iPad Pro's keyboard cover is an excellent keyboard. 
- There are many different ways to get data into and out of it. 
- There's no need to use cellular data if you don't want to. 

The iPad Pro has the best screen quality for photographs of any tablet on the 
market today. It's more reliable, and there are more apps for it, than any 
other tablet on the market today. I wouldn't consider buying any other tablet 
computer unless it was for some odd specific purpose that required it. 

But I hesitate to recommend it to you, John, because you seem to complain about 
anything and everything regardless of how good or bad it might be.

With most tablets it is easy to connect to a cheap ( about $10) 
bluetooth keyboard if you want minimal use of the touchscreen.
I bought one for my Google Pixel C tablet wheras the original separate 
keyboard from Google costs about $ 160.

The Pixel C has by the way excellent resolution for viewing pictures.

Recently bought a Lenovo Yoga 3. Tapping its screen to write this. :-)  
It cost me about 160 USD, plus a micro SDXC card. I load images via Google 
Disk, flickr and Microsoft OneDrive through Wifi. 
Pleased with its battery and find the screen okay. I suspect the Samsung models 
with AMOLED screens are brighter, but none were available locally for similar 
prices at the time of purchase.

4. I *HATE* touchscreens, so it should be easy to clean grubby
fingerprints off the screen.
