Komodo in Win XP mode
I can not get many things to work in Windows 7 64 bit when using PDK and Komodo. I decided to try installing XP mode so I don't have to reboot to my 32 bit partition or run another computer just to maintain scripts that use incompatible modules. I was able to install various active perls as well as PDK but I can not get Komodo to work at all. It will not open. I have installed it from an msi downloaded and copied within the XP mode file system. This is the only reason I bought XP mode and am feeling a little ripped off as I always do when I buy something from -- Best regards, Spencer Chase 67550-Bell Springs Rd. RE: perlapp on win 7 64 bit?
On Wed, 22 Dec 2010, Spencer Chase wrote: [It would be best if you could post PDK related problems to the PDK mailing list and not to the general perl-win32-users; please remove perl-win32-user from follow-up posts.] I am trying to make exe files for win32 systems on my 64 bit installation. I can run the scripts with all the needed modules using Komodo but I can not make exes that include the required perl 5.8. These scripts need perl 5.8 but it is not binary compatible with 64 bit windows. This is the error message I get if I try to change the source for perl in the main perlapp window. Any way to get around this other than running perlapp from the 32 bit installation which requires rebooting. You seem to be mixing 32-bit ActivePerl with 64-bit PDK or vice versa. That doesn't work; both must be either 32-bit or 64-bit. You can install all versions side-by-side on Windows 7 64-bit, but you should make sure that you put consistent versions on your PATH. The default install locations are: 32-bit: C:\Perl 64-bit: C:\Perl64 32-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\ActiveState Perl Dev Kit 9.0.1 64-bit: C:\Program Files\ActiveState Perl Dev Kit 9.0.1 The reason to install both 32-bit and 64-bit PDK is that some tools (just PerlMSI and the Graphical Debugger, I think) are only available in the 32-bit releases, and you can use these tools to package or debug 64-bit applications. For PerlApp itself it isn't strictly necessary to use the 32-bit versions to build 32-bit executables, you can also use the 64-bit PDK and use the `--target windows-x86` option to request cross-platform wrapping. But either way should work fine. The only thing that will not work is using a 32-bit ActivePerl with a 64-bit PerlApp or the other way around. Please try to run matching versions of ActivePerl and PerlApp, as I just recommended in another reply to you, and report any further problems you have on the PDK mailing list. If you have problems with Komodo on 64-bit Windows 7, then please post to the Komodo discussion list and ask for advice there! RE: Community User

The ASPN site lists a category they're calling Community, which is the only one that even comes close to describing my situation. Is it the case that the perl documentation is no longer available to community users online? I don't see that as a problem. It's just that I've always accessed the documentation there and was not aware that (apparently) the html is and has been stored locally during the installation process. The documentation is still online at http://docs.activestate.com/ I've also noticed a dramatic decrease in the acitivity on this and the other ASPN forums that I subscribe to -- pdk, xml, admin, activeperl. Are there new forums and, if so, are they available to community users? There are some web forums that kind of duplicate the topics of some mailing lists here: http://community.activestate.com/main Personally I'm no fan of web forums, so I never go there. So I have no idea how much traffic they get. I agree that the Perl mailing lists have less traffic than 10 years ago. All Windows related stuff happens here on perl-win32-users; the other perl-win32-* lists are more or less dead and should probably be decommissioned. On the other hand there seem to be a lot more blogging about Perl than there was 10 years ago. :) Cheers, -Jan ___ Perl-Win32-Users mailing list Perl-Win32-Users@listserv.ActiveState.com To unsubscribe: http://listserv.ActiveState.com/mailman/mysubs
