This is a weird thing. I've had the exact same problem, only with Plucker
.gz downloads. Winzip tells me they're not valid archives. What I've learned
is that, for whatever reason, when they arrive at my computer they're no
longer .gzipped. I just strip off the .gz extension, and they're fine.
