Ah, are you installing from CVS or using the packaged zip file?
The raw files from CVS won't work any more without the change you made.
I think there's a way around this...

Hi Matt, seems like you've solved the missing strings. You could see in
the log file that SlimServer wasn't loading the strings.txt file from
SqueezeScrobbler (look for Loading String File).
The missing web page I don't know. It could be an artifact of starting

Hi,
I've installed this on an Ubuntu box and while many of the Podcasts do
work - many more do not. It says buffering for a while - then nothign
happens. Below is log. I am a bit of a Newbie to Ubuntu and
Slimserver/AlienBBC so apologies if I have made any elementary
mistakes!
Many Thanks T
I'm not sure why but I think this is a problem with softsqueeze - try
playing the podcast on a real SB.

Now theres a challenge. My blind mate is hooked on his SB3 and
remembers all the key strokes on the remote to get to where he wants
(pretty impressive!). Of course what be way better would be to work
out a way of reading the box text output and relaying it out to a
speech synth and onwards.
I think using a Jive remote would be a better starting point it is only
beta but a real product is likely..

OK - will do... I will have to go home and get my SB out of the box...
Not sure the wife will let me do that until we have unpacked the new

Thanks for the reply - I'll let you know how it goes when I get a
chance to try it.

Thanks James.
One question, as this seems to have changed in SqueezeCenter: where is
the cache located? I am running Windows Vista...

I would expect it to be in the SqueezeCentre installation, but I've no
idea if this has moved on Vista!

I think the BBC have changed the format for that page and the AlienBBC
parser can't understand it any more.
I'm pretty sure the AlienBBC guys are aware of this, but I'm not sure
whether they'll fix it in 1.06 or require you to update to 2.00 in due
course.

Hi James,
After some searching, I found that in vista, the directory can be found
at c:\ProgramData\SlimServer. ProgramData is a hidden directory.
Clearing the cache has solved the settings issue. I now have full

It looks like your SlimServer cannot connect to the internet sometimes.
There are messages in the log that both audioscrobbler.com and
squeezenetwork.com cannot be connected to. Possibly a Vista/firewall
issue?
There also seems to be a LastFM password issue - probably worth
entering it again.
Check out my module at http://www.rocketgui.com/
It supports multiple touch panels and players like you are looking for,
and the interface is well designed and very pleasing to the eye.
There are screen shots and more details on my site at the above link.

Just wanted to know if there is a way to make AlienBBC work with my SB3.
I had OS X 10.3.9 before and never worked. I upgraded to 10.4.10 and
still nothing works. It keeps showing the message the stations don't
exist on playlist.
My server details here:
SlimServer Version: 6.5.4 - 12568 - Mac OS
AlienBBC has two parts:
1. BBC Menus
2. Playing realaudio streams using mplayer.
If the BBC menus don't appear or work, then the installation needs to
be checked. I don't have a Mac so I expect some Mac users may help.
Some of the BBC menus (e.g. BBC Radio 4 Listen Again) no longer work
as

No RTSP entries probably means there is a problem with the installation
of the plugin files.
What is the tar name of the file you downloaded to install AlienBBC ?

I downloaded alienbbc-linux-v1.06.6.5 from the page and followed the

Sorry - this is going to be tedious but as I don't have a Mac, there is
a need to check the basics.
1. The Plugins directory which has the Alien folder also has all the
other Plugins (e.g. DateTime, Health) and the Alien folder has the same
owner and permissions as the other folders.
2. In the
I am pasting you here the pics of that folder and the permissions it
has. Hope you can see something here.
And more pics on the next post.

All the files look OK but I can't see any ownership or permissions and I
can't tell you how to make OSX show them either.
What you need to do is check that the permissions and ownership of the
Alien files folder are the same as the Health folder and files.
I hope a Mac user can suggest how
Last pic shows permissions at the bottom. It says Read And Write,
meaning they can be changed. I guess that's what you mean.

Images are very small and I can't see the details.
Check the owner and group and see if they are the same as files (e.g.
check Plugin.pm ) in the Health plugin.

Thanks for that, Felix. I've noticed now by reading the Wiki section
that IR repeater is probably what I want as it's supposed to
transparently pass IR codes without any config files being needed at
all. I have a couple of URC 7562 remotes which I'll program with SB and
Humax codes.
