I note that the BBC stations are now in the Logitech menus and will play
from outside of the UK. While I'll continue to use Alien because it
provides me access to Listen Again and Schedules, does this mean that
Real Player support is now native on Squeezebox? I thought the reason
for Alien
RealAudio is not native in SB players.
The WMA BBC live stations are now available outside of the UK so there
is no need for AlienBBC because WMA is supported natively. However I
think Listen Again (and possible Local Radio) is still only available in
RealAudio so AlienBBC is still needed for
Ah! Thanks for clearing that up for me.
On that note please do not think that Alien is now superflous; as long
as you have the strength to continue development you've got at least one
user
thanks again

For completeness, I have since found out that Listen Again is also now
available for non-UK users in Flash based AACplus. This is academic
since this format is not supported natively by SB either.

Problem solved. Logitech now provide preconfigured BBC stations, so I
don't need AlienBBC anymore.
Thanks for your support.

BPA,
thanks for your info.
I am using the following:
Server name: Synology
Serial number: 8BE9N00021
Model name: DS408
Total Physical Memory: 512 MB
Firmware version: DSM 2.1-0844
In the Squeezecenter advanced / filetypes tab it refers to mplayer.sh,

Mplayer does not get installed as part of AlienBBC and it looks like you
haven't used SSODS.
It is necessary to to find out does the mplayer on your system work.
Can you run mplayer from a shell prompt and copy the banner info to a
post.

On the Synology Squeezecenter, when I open Squeezecenter / Settings /
Advanced / AlienBBC, mplayer is listed as installed. It is also shown as
an option in the dropdown menu in the filetypes tab. Apparently the
Extension downloader installed some mplayer on the Synology together
with AlienBBC.

Extension Downloader does not install mplayer.
AlienBBC will try to install mplayer on Windows as the Windows binary
works on all Windows platforms. AlienBBC does not try to install
mplayer on Linux as processor and kernel can be different on different
systems.
Where did your mplayer come from
Hi everyone
I have seen quite a few posts about how to fix AlienBBC plugin issues,
but I have no clue about Linux, so I'm a bit lost.
I have installed the AlienBBC Plugin on my Synology DS408 using
Extension downloader. Then turned off Squeezecenter and turned it back
on. AlienBBC shows up under
For AlienBBC to play RealAudio streams - you need a build of mplayer
that runs on your Synology.
