Hi,
I'd like to run squeezeslave on a Windows XP machine to output music
from squeezebox server to the PC's soundcard. Squeezeslave seems to be
up to this task, its lightweight and simple enough (which I like),
except it will only play mp3 files. If I try to play an Ogg/Vorbis
track I get

Assuming Squeezeslave, before trying to integrate with Moose, you
should probably make sure you get the switches right as a stand-alone
application (using a CMD shell).
Yes - SqueezeSlave. The problem is I can't find any
There is nothing to install. Just create a directory and copy the files
to it. I have a pthreadGC2.dll file in my squeezeslave directory. Check
yours.

The file pthread2gd.dll is not there, and I can't find it on my PC
either. But presumably the fact that

The pthreadGC2.dll dependancy was removed from squeezeslave with the
1.0-210 release. Only the .exe is required.

First, close moose and kill any squeezeslave processes found in task
manager.

Well I gave it a go on a XP desktop that is about to be thrown out.
Everything installed easily enough, and everything appears to work,
including sync, EXCEPT that no sound comes out on the desktop. Just

Thank you - and is there an easy way to install it on a PC without
installing all the squeezebox server software?

Squeezeplay and Moose is a perfect combo. I use it everyday at work. Not
sure if it works on 64bit.
Set Squeezeslave Path in Preferences Misc and server address in
Preferences Server.
Create a shortcut to Moose and add \squeezeslave after moose.exe.
C:\Program Files\Moose\Moose.exe
Thanks, but excuse my ignorance, but what is Moose? Does it Sync with
other SB3s? And does it play radio and iPlayer?

Moose is a Windows GUI, not a player. You need Squeezeslave for that.

Your original post said Squeezeplay and Moose is a perfect combo. Was
that a typo - should squeezeplay be squeezesoft?
So I install Moose on the laptop which runs SBS 7.5.3 and then I
install squeezeslave on the desktop which doesn't have SBS running, but
on which I want to sync with the SB3?

Cool - Ill give it a go. Any idea if it works with BBC iPlayer? And
syncs reasonably well with SB3s?

All 3 work but user may have different preferences. All players can be
controlled by Web UI, Moose, iPeng, Duet etc. as well as their own UI.
Softsqueeze is Java based and has a UI which is an emulation of older
player such as SB3, Transporter - so only monochrome text/dot display.
Audio is

I currently run SBS 7.5.3 on my Windows 7 (32bit) Laptop which feeds two
sync'd SB3s.
I would like also to listen on a new Windows 7 (64bit) desktop that I
am about to take delivery of. I would like to listen to FLACs, Internet
radio (esp iPLayer) reasonably well sync'd (although I don't mind
There is a wiki page which compares the features/capabilities of the
software players. Not sure if all the information is correct/complete,
