Re: [Ql-Users] Jan Jones
Morning John, ... My memory is not too clear on the second reprint as I was not involved. I think the Quanta committee paid someone to do a limited number of photocopied versions. The quality was abominable. I think I've got one of those then! ;-) Cheers, Norm. -- Norman Dunbar Dunbar IT Consultants Ltd Registered address: Thorpe House 61 Richardshaw Lane Pudsey West Yorkshire United Kingdom LS28 7EL Company Number: 05132767 ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

I didn't think we ever argued Dilwyn, do we? I tried logging in to SourceForge from Windows 7 with IE earlier today. I think your skin on IE might be the problem. Mine is the default - on the grounds that it only ever gets used for Windows Update (once in a blue moon when I actually login) but that's another story. (Windows 7 SP 1 refuses to install. Sigh!) Anyway, I can see why you are having a wee rant at Sourceforge, it is abysmal in IE under Windows 7. Nonetheless, Norman's Q-Stripper program made the entire bad taste experience of that particular website worthwhile, I'm glad to say - so we now have 32 bit and 64 bit versions (and Linux) of this program which is so handy for viewing Quill files, not to mention the ability to convert them to 3 or 4 other formats. Great work, Norman. Except, not good enough I'm afraid. Version 1.02 is now uploaded. 1.01 shouldn't be used any more. I've fixed the horOzontal bug that's been there since time began. It's one of those words I can never spell. I've fixed the part where 1.01 always translates a file from PC to QL character sets. I missed out an IF statement to only do the translation when the file was opened as a PC file. I've also fixed SourceForge under Windows 32 bit, and put the exe file into a folder that includes the version number, so you know what you are downloading. This might affect the links on your (Dilwyn's) web site. Apologies for the inconvenience. Re: [Ql-Users] Composite video device
Dilwyn , looks like there are quite a few of those Drum Samplers so knowing which one would be nice. How ever as you said the composite output is best just connected to the Scart input of the given TV! I’ve suggested connecting its composite video to pins 20 and 17 of a SCART connector to a TV set, and suggested he looks into whether JS Technologies (who make the Simple Video Scalar for older computers like QL) have any suitable adaptors for Composite video, although I don’t know if that works only by RGB. Dilwyn Jones I have a Simmons SDX drum sampler. It outputs composite video at a resolution of 512x256. I am interested in the possibility that I may be able to use some of the QL techniques as (correct me if I'm wrong) the QL also outputs 512x256 video. Re: [Ql-Users] Composite video device
I know he's been talking to JS Technologies about that video scalar device, but that's as much as I've heard back so far. The only thing I can think of is that either he doesn't have a SCART TV or it's a victim of over-scanning like the QL used to be with some TVs and monitors which would only really cope with 480 pixels wide. Anyway, I can see why you are having a wee rant at Sourceforge, it is abysmal in IE under Windows 7. Yup, tried it with Firefox, where it's much easier. One of these days I'll see sense and make Firefox the default browser on this system. This is a wise statement in the most part, tis even better to plan on doing that Soon!! A lot less security holes in IE then is years past, BUT they still find holes big enough to drive trucks thru it. Setting up firefox was/is fairly easy, it also will Import all your IE bookymarks for you. The ONLY reason I use IE (The last 8 or more years) is to visit the MS updates site. PERIOD! And For a while the server farm that handled all that for MS was sub-contracted out and the servers ran a form of linux. -- Paul Holmgren Mine: 2 57 300-C's in Indy Hers: 05 PT GT R/T HO Stage 1 Hoosier Corps L#6 ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
