Just to pick up on one point in your post: I personally think a Treaty is
important because it structuralizes relations between the Aboriginal peoples
and the colonisers. I think it is a precursor to giving the Aboriginal
people a lift, a feeling of some form of equality upon which can be

I'm also a bit wary of a treaty but only because I think it may, in the long
run, not guarantee Indigenous rights because it can so easily be ignored.
All human rights, including Aboriginal land rights, would be a whole lot safer
in a Bill of Rights enshrined in the Constitution.
