RE: [Repeater-Builder] something altogether different
Nothing gave me more pleasure than spending my long distance charges on sending fidmail packets from my BBS to the hub in st. Louis that were LADEN with snide remarks straying further and further off topic. You actually *paid* for long distance modem calls back then ??!?? :-) :-) :-) (I ran an Apple ][ BBS running GBBS for about 8 years back in the day...) --- Jeff

RE: [Repeater-Builder] something altogether different
No tone service where I was. Ha! Whistle up 2600 on an 800 call and the world was your oyster... I first box I actually owned outright is a timex Sinclair 1000 with the 16k ram pak sitting out in the shed/shack Mine was a Trash-80 Model I. I cut my teeth on a VAX-11/750 at a local college before getting the TRS-80. Around the same time I tinkered with a friend's IMSAI 8080. I had one of the Timex-Sinclair's that I got via a discount coupon that came with a case of Maxell betamax video cassettes. Those were the days. My Apple ][ ran a 1 MHz 6502, had 64K of RAM, and I had the unheard-of luxury (for back then) of having a 5 MB hard drive. In contrast, over Christmas I built myself a new workstation based on an overlocked quad-core i7 processor, 6 GB of RAM, 3 TB of storage, etc. and I spent less on it as compared to my Apple ][ rig. My how far we've come... Enough reminiscing, I probably sound like one of those OF's on 80m that talks about their gout, their pension, and what orifice they're having scoped this week, back to real work. --- Jeff WN3A

Wondering if the box supported pulse service not owning a rotary phone (I'm not an antique collector), I picked up my touchtone phone hand-pulsed the hook to dial my wife's cell phone. It worked. Ah yes... haven't tapped out a number in years. Used to run in to phones with no dials once in a while. I have two old rotary phones, one is an old fashioned wooden wall mount that was built in the 60s. [Repeater-Builder] something altogether different
-snip- Yes, there IS a secret plan to destroy the Internet by having side-conversations like those that normally happen in person when talking to other humans. It's been going on since the USENET days. (Maybe the conspiracy extends all the way back to BBS's and FidoNet but we're not sure. The original founders of The Plan are shrouded in mystery.) I'm sure The Plan will be effective soon and the world will come to an end. One of the major components of the plan is to get people to react with snide remarks, which makes it all work so very well! ;-) Hahaha...
