All,
A while ago I said I would change my local due to modern tank cars not being
available (chemicals made up 1/3 of the traffic on the southern sub). I came to
this conclusion by looking at the NASG database and noticing that the companies
that produced them were out of business (!@#$
I am using micro engineering Code 100 rail and would like to detail portions of
my trackwork with fish/splice plates.
I would appreciate any suggestions on a manufacturer or product number for this
item.
Thanks, George Marcopulos (is there anybody on the list who lives close--or

John,
Could it have been Xerox? Googling Solid Ink reveals that Xerox makes solid
ink printers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_ink. The ink is actually like
a crayon and is heated and melted during the print process. Depending on the
temperatures used, the process may or may not damage the
Hi George;
Welcome to the group!
I know Grandt Line has joint bars intended for code 100 rail in their On3 line
that will work in S. Also check with Tomalco, as they have lots of track detail
parts (as well as excellent flex track and a variety of turnouts). Dick Karnes

Jeff,
Whilst perusing the site for IRM, I came upon their new products page, so I'm
guessing that they do occasionally have new products coming out. The real
surprise was what the new product is: an Arch-Bar truck!
When I saw the first picture I thought this must be N scale! so I checked
Rusty,
Hate assuming, so did the check finally arrive?

Dear Howard
I'd guess the Peare are more than fifty years old, probably going on sixty. He
mostly made O scale track, so these are probably from some of the same rail
(although
quite a few O scale modelers back then used the even more comical code #172) to
accomodate AF wheelsets and drivers.
Does anyone know more about these? I want to sell them but
don't know enough about them.
I found this:

The car isn't that bad to build from styrene, flat and tube stock. I've got

Peare did indeed offer Af compatible S track and turnouts with Code 172 rail.
He also offered track and turnouts for S scale in Code 125. I recall their
being advertised decades ago in MR or RMC.

A 1952 catalog with something quite interesting in it's contents! I don't know
anything about this line... but I did find something interesting in the catalog
on the page titled Crossings... below the Good Layout Design header... we
see the term SCALE being used (in contrast to the term
Whoa! Gonna bookmark that page. I've got tons of the stuff hanging around.
Enough to make a sizable layout.
Howard, if you find a buyer let me know and maybe I can unload it.

If I didn't know better, which I don't, I'd say these are a remake of the old
Ace trucks. Sure look the same

Who else is making a standard arch-bar truck in S scale, I ask you?

Darrell,
It IS the Ace Archbar truck. Iron Rail Models is essentially everything
Downs Model Railroad was.

I don't know with absolute certainty, but I believe the RDC was nickel
I would like to thank Chuck West and the Des Plaines Valley Scale Group for a
great time Saturday evening. I am in the process of building a new layout.
Their combined wealth of information and willingness to share their expertise
was most welcome. I came away with many great ideas and
