Jim, I agree. My question was aimed at the technical issue. I've always thought the NMRA Recommended Practices were aimed at the technical minimum, but my HO experience is different than the RP suggestion. With a 14' wide room and wanting to leave about a foot behind the track for scenery,

Rhett, I would be interested in knowing more about your S scale City of New Orleans and Panama Limited. I have a pair of AM's IC E8s pulling a number of the full length AM IC passenger cars. They look gorgeous, but the train is a hybrid between the all-Pullman Panama Limited and other IC

Rhett, Our, (Danny and myself), experience is that 45 minimum mainline radius with 42 for passing siding is a good compromise. Allow about a physical 1/2 for on each side of the curve for the easement using the bent stick method as described by Dick Karnes and you will have few problems except

Bob and all You might try a product called Extend-It. I use it to keep my resin from going bad. I have never tried it for paint, but it should work. I think it is nitrogen in a spray can. Just a couple of puffs in the paint jar and put the lid on. I get extend-ti from Eager Polymers in

Alan, You hit the nail on the head when you refer to room and indirectly to desire. I don't think there is one correct approach to model railroading. But others, like I, do have their desires. I'm not a broad curve person, but I enjoy seeing them on others layouts. Modeling the

Bob, For years I have kept a large glass jar, with a tight fitting lid, 2/3 full with a 50% mix of ammonia and household cleaner, such as Lysol, to clean my paint bottles. When I empty a bottle, I drop it and the lid into the mix: no need to wipe any paint off. When the jar is full or I need
