Yes the RDC was posted as with the Alclad black. As mentioned it is a
strange paint to use. It was mostly a goof as it was not stainless yet.
I paint my all of interiors black as I have no intention of ever detailing
or lighting.

Hi Don.
Quick question. Is the color black used on the SHS 2-8-0s a match to any
commercially available model paints?
Thanks

Thorin,
Take some glass wool and stuff a medium sized funnel with it. Use enough
glass wool to fill the funnel up to about 3/4ths of its volume. Then press the
wool down to make a sort-of-tight fit inside the funnel. This last is to
ensure that no paint lumps can pass through the wool.
I use both scalecoat and Floquil paint. I am using a lot more scalecoat than
Floquil. On some recent projects, I used Floquil with a top coat of Crystal
coat. When I tried to put on decals, I had a very hard time to position the
decals. When I used scalecoat with no top coat, I could move the

I cannot answer your question but am concerned that this might be the same
thing that happened many years ago when I painted an FA-FB-FA set. In my
case, I had stripped shells that had originally been Great Northern. The

I tried my hand at painting a undecorated AM GP35 and ran into a problem. The
primer coat went on without a problem. However, the main coat, while going on
smoothly, dried leaving a kind of crazed coat. I believe that I forgot to
thoroughly wash the model before painting it, but the primer coat

With my new computer I can once again reply directly to the list! I

I am willing to try Brake fluid at this point.

Except perhaps for some organic oven cleaners (which don't seem to work as
well), I do suggest the usual precautions in
handling oven cleaner are worth remembering--the principal ingredient is lye.

Hi All,
A few months ago, there was a good discussion on various paint remover products
that were safe to use on plastic models. Unfortunately, I didn't copy the names
of any of those products. Would someone who remembers a few of those products
please post them again? Thanks.

A general, good paint remover for plastic is Isopropyl alcohol 70%
Otherwise known as rubbing alcohol or IPA.
There are other products which I am sure others on this list can tell us
about.
I have had good results with IPA.

Scale coat is great paint! If you thin it four to one, you shure wound not

Thorin,
I have admittedly not switched to acrylic paints. However, I don't think the
paint is your problem as much as trying to brush it on. IMHO, you are never
going to get a nice smooth finish no matter what paint or brush you used,
when compared to an airbrush. I have heard some paints have

I purchased the 30 w x 20 deep x 16 high dual fan 540 CFM model.
In my haste, I assumed the price meant the smaller booth.
Andre,
As someone that has been known to paint a thing or 3, I say go BIG.
Admittedly, I may have gone to the extreme in that respect. My paint booth

coated chipboard.

Hi All,
For years I have dropped a few BB's into new jars of paint as I use
them for the first time. This helps agitate the pigment when I shake
the bottle. Recently I added a couple to a bottle of clearcoat, but it
seems that there may be a reaction taking between the paint and the
