{S-Scale List} Re: AC/DC

2013-09-28 Thread richgajnak

Andre,

Yes and no.

Unless requested, SHS locomotives came with an electronic reverse unit for AC
operation. I expect it would also work on DC, although I never tried it.

The good new is the reverse unit had the standard 8-pin DCC plug and SHS also
included a shorting plug for DC only operation.

Question: Do the SHS diesel locomotives come in dedicated AC or DC? In
other words, when shopping the secondary market for an SHS diesel model...
must it be DC specific, or does one model do both AC/DC?

 Thanks.

On my diesel switcher the AC board is replaced by the DC shorting plug. The AC board can then be removed from the unit. The units come with HiRail wheel sets installed and scale wheel sets in the box.So make sure that what you buy has either the set up you want or all the parts so you can change it.Paul Tenney ---In s-scale@yahoogroups.com, rustytraque@... wrote:Andre,

Thanks to all that offered good input to my AC/DC question.

Sounds like I need to ask the right questions before purchasing on the
secondary market.

I don't think I fully realized there were internal options to configure with
SHS items for DC use. (i.e. Shorting plugs, etc.) Reckon ol' Don always took
care of me in my enthusiastic ignorance.

. . . . . . . . . . and SHS also included a shorting plug for DC only

And one of their switchers, forget which, came with a shorting plug that
would make loco run backwards. They supplied a correct plug to those who
got the bum one.

That was on the initial shipment of SW1's. All the other SW/NW's were OK. I'm
not sure, but I think they swapped out the defective ones on remaining stock.
