[RCSE] RE: 6 volt battery for retreiver

2008-08-20 Thread Robert P Buxton

NAPA #7244 815 CA 650 CCA

Jim I use the above battery for retrieving my winch line at the end
of the flying session. I have a Tim McCann winch and I find the 12
volt battery a bit daunting when reeling in the line when the day is
done. The 6 volt battery is perfect for this task and I must say
much safer. I think it might just fill the bill for what you want
the battery for. Back in the early 80s I bought a winch from a
company in Idaho(I think) that had 3 solenoids and a 3 position foot
pedal which allowed for 6 volt, 9 volt and 12 volts depending on how
far you pushed the pedal down. It was perfect for different types of
planes and I still have it and always liked the idea of reeling in
the line at the end of the day at 6 volt speed. Maybe, someone on
the exchange will remember the name of this winch. I know there was
an ad in the National Soaring Society magazine back then.

Hope this will help, sorry for the rambling.

Best Regards,

Robert

[RCSE] Sanyo AA Eneloop Rechargeable Batteries

2008-05-11 Thread Robert P Buxton
Has anyone on the exchange had any first hand experience with these
batteries. I acquired 4 from a friend and made up a flight pack.
Cycled them twice and they were right on the money at 2000mA. My
concern is that I will be running 6 JR digital servos on this
battery, therefore does anyone know the internal impedance for these
batteries? All comments welcome

Robert

[RCSE] Aileron Flap Carbon Fiber Pushrods

2008-04-03 Thread Robert P Buxton
Open Question to the group: Has anyone had experience (good or bad)
with using carbon fiber push rods for their aileron flap servo
linkage. This past season, due to slow thumb response at that
critical moment of retracting flaps just before touch down, I was
bending the flap push rods (bottom hinged, linkage on top of flap,
servo arm on bottom of wing. Carbon fiber rods would give
stiffness/rigidity but would they be prone to breakage? This set up
was/and is on a F3J 144 Shadow. All comments and suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.

Robert

[RCSE] Antenna Routing

2006-05-14 Thread Robert P. Buxton

Mark,
I ran my antenna on the Piper on the inside and even use a Rubber Duck
antenna on my transmitter(JR 8103). I have no distance problem with
this setup. The only problem is my eyesight. So, the
fuselages of the Piper and the EVO XL seem to be constructed in the same
manner and material so I don't see any reason not to run it internally
but as others have so wisely suggested, RANGE CHECK. My son an I
range check mine with one at the plane and the other in the car driving
away with the transmitted and cell phones(hands free, of course) to
communicate.
I have all the necessary components for my EVO XL in hand and will start
assemble today. I did note in the EVO Setup instructions(translated
from German to English)that they warn against running the antenna wire
internally. I wonder if this is not a European problem, i.e.
European frequencies. Maybe someone on the list can confirm or
deny.

Robert

Was going to get some needed vinyl lettering for some of my birds and
have done business in the past with Vinylwrite.com in Napa, CA. It
would appear that perhaps they are no longer in business. Does anyone
have any information on the whereabouts and status of this company.
Or is this one of our Cottage industries that has gone by the
wayside. If so, would like info on a good source of vinyl letter
for my sailplanes. Thanks to all. Robert

[RCSE] Diode in JR 388 ??

2001-01-28 Thread Robert P. Buxton

I'm assuming there is a diode in the JR 388 transmitter, since several
years ago I tried to check the Tx battery voltage/cycle the battery down
and proceeded to blow the fuse. Just purchased a Sirius Super Test and
would like to have the ability to cycle the Tx batteries with this tester.
Question, what is involved in removing the diode? Is this something that I
might be able to do? I don't imagine JR repair would look kindly on this
request although warranty is certainly not an issue. All thoughts and
suggestions are welcome.

BTW using the Sirius Pro Series charger on a new 300 Mah SR Battery Pack,
cycled 5 times with the Super Charger and the Super Test yielded a pack
capacity of 371 Mah. Likewise, a Sanyo/JR 270 Mah battery pack cycled the
same way produced a capacity of 317 Mah. Both were cycled down @ 125 Mah
rate. Who says we don't get our moneys worth these days.

According to the Serious chart I sent you, JR have no diodeIf you

You do realize that JR is backwards on the + - than say Futaba
or Airtronics or Hitec for that matter?? Make sure your using a JR
friendly chargerStill should not have blown a fuse...Sirius is
supposed to be safe in that regardHope all this is
helpful...Brian

Brian,
Your absolutely correct, I did know that, however read on. Plugged the Tx
in after your
E-mail works just fine, Thank you. I now think I know why I blew
the fuse several years ago. I used a Tower Hobby ESV and had the polarity
reversed on the meter or actually did not have it reversed for the JR
plug, voila blown fuse. Guess we are never too old to learn. I
guess I was just timid to try the tester because of my previous
experience and ignorance and knowing that I would probably have to
go to Radio Shack to get a new fuse if it blew, since my wife has put my
spares ones some where logical to her(and then forgot where) but
certainly not logical to me.

Thanks to all that responded, all with the same above advice.
