In SI using ultimapper you set an overall scan distance. In other solution
there is a cage (the clone of the original low res model) and you tweak this
cage to set the distance on a per vertex level. It’s almost critical in game
dev where you might need different distances on your model

Hi
| What version of XSI is it compatible with?
Softimage 2010-2013
There are a shaders that could be working with older MRay versions.

Hi
The default project folders are specified in the registry

You could change stuff in the registry, but maybe you would prefer to
have a plugin/event/addon that does that for you.

Here’s a good cage example.

Look at barrels at bottom.
Feature request was already logged and I updated it:
SOFT-5435 Ultimapper needs cage support to control ray length and direction

Thanks for the explanation links, it all makes sense now.
Getting cage support would be helpful; I had been planning on using Ultimapper
for something pretty soon but I think I'll give Xnormal a shot instead.

It's hard to take that url seriously. I think next time you should run
it through a link shortner :)

Hi guys,
I'm having troubles with XSI and a network disk (Lacie BigDisk).
It's a Lan (rj45) connexion, and whenever I try to access it it's
getting very slow.
In Softimage, if I try to access down to 5 level of
sub-directories(Z://directory/directory/directory/directory/ ) it takes

Controls whether Softimage checks folders for subfolders when displaying
the file browser. Setting this variable to 1 may speed up file operations
on NFS systems, particularly on Linux. When set, folders are always drawn

Is the Softimage Common Files location in your PATH?
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Softimage
If it isn't, that will cause the error you are getting.

Sorry for the noob question, but... is calling functions inside SI, from a
Python instance outside SI possible?
Ive got Python correctly installed in SI, but have no idea if this is
doable, and information on the web looks a bit scarce and confusing.
There is this:
There isn't a built in way to send commands to XSI through Python. You need
to build your own Socket connections and system of receiving / sending
data. There is a sample for CPP in the SDK examples. Also thought there was
a python one too.

Stephen,
What Distribution and Version of Linux is that on? We're trying CentOS 6.3

Stephen is probably on Windows ...
I'm on CentOS as well and have the same issue. So the local web server
redirecting requests might stay your better option until Soft ships with
another python version.
Good luck anyway.
