Interesting - this actually worked. I still can't start Soft on the usual
account, so I guess I will have to proceed with deleting it and rename the
new working one. Lots of crap to reestablish though. Bummer.
It would be really nice to know how it can become corrupted like this. Last
thing I did
Bizarre that different user works, but not renaming the user prefs - as
effectively all that exists within the user is maybe a shortcut and the
prefs folders.

I reinstalled this morning - still no joy, so Svens user account trick got
me running again.
I had tried running it as admin, but that doesn't work either. I have only
previously run in to startup crashes that would be fixed by renaming prefs
- this one is new, and somewhat worrying.

saw it.
Its a student project piece where one of the students uses Houdini to

Anyone remember this.
What about trying to 'run as a admin' on the xsi.bat and/or setenv.bat file?
If that works, it's something in the user rights that got messed up
somewhere.
As an additional test to see what's going on?

There is a hidden folder in the system drive with a set of files that usually
don't get Uninstalled with SI and is not its preference and settings folder. It
contains license data I think. I had a similar error. But renaming or deleting
said folder fixed it (after reinstalling dozens of
