Hi Mario and all,
This year, my sundials of the month are dedicated to the Art:
http://www.cadrans-solaires.fr/cadrans-du-mois.html
And be patient for the next month ... or help me to continue
You can fond also other artists in previous months:

Dear Bob and all,
I presented this French sundial in March 2005 as my preferred one:
http://www.cadrans-solaires.fr/cadran-mines.html

I put some photos to show that you can read solstice or equinox at noon some

Hello Roderick,
The sundial maker is jean-Michel Ansel and as Willy said, he doesn't like
astrology and it's the reason why he prefered these astronomical references,
even if it's more difficult to explain.
The book is made out of high quality concrete. Metallical lines are directly
included
Great Sol !
Thanks a lot.
I totally forgot this bottle from Mac already on my website :
http://www.cadrans-solaires.fr/cylindre-d-azimut.html
I added it on the sundial wine page :

Maybe you are right for the spot, I think also it's to avoid to burn people as
the sundial for blind people

Hi John and all,
I made a page on these kind of dials
http://www.cadrans-solaires.fr/style-humain.html
Is this dial correctly designed?
Or is the human just standing in the wrong place?
In my page, you can see another photo of the same dial of Nice
Hi Fer and all,
Fer is right, it's the same as for a sphere.
For the dam, you need to find the point of the ballustrade where an hour plane
tangents the ballustrade
and then the hour line is the intersection of this hour plane and the dam cone
which could be drawn with a laser.
My favorite

Hello all sundial lovers
Do you remember my game:

Hello all sundial lovers
I have a gnomonic game for you (in French and English only, sorry for Italian
people):
How to read the time on this dial

Here are some clues, warning some are useless:

Hi Roger and all,
Recently, I found someone who translated Kairrouan dial inscriptions, I added
on my page (sorry only in French)
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/cadrans.solaires/cadrans/Kairouan.html
The inscriptions mean for example 1 hour before sunset, 2 hours ... for 23 or
22 Italic hours
MessageHi Hans,
Here is a little dial and amusing dial from Maurice Kieffer

at 11:00 and for August declination, you can see the little hole of the 1999
eclipse
I can try to get a photo with more definition
Hello Ricardo,
I can propose the French classification created by Pierre-Joseph Dallet for
his software Solarium with Paul Gagnaire's help for the names and my
translation:
- Class: Spatial geometrical shape of the dial (Plane, conical, cylindrical,
spherical, back of a man's hand etc.)
-
Thanks to Willy and his magical excel, I tried to compare with my photos, you
can see here:
http://horloge.astronomique.free.fr/horloges-europe.html
(sorry only French comments)
We can see that Italic hours were not correct in 1995 but are correct now.
Have fun also with your photos !

Dear Mike and all,
Just imagine ... you dig in your garden and you find an old globe sundial !
See here what someone found in France:

I don't know other dials of this kind in France, only globe dials with meridian

Hello Franz
I agree with Roger, it seems to come from Artissime, you can see other
examples (without yin and yang) from Briançon shop on the jpeg.
And another similar one made by Yves Opizzo here :

Bob and all,
As I told before when I
sent the link with the sunny picture, we can see that the hour lines (cables) are not at the
right place : they point to the base of the perpendicular gnomon.
It's the "sundial of an
artist"
For those who understand
French, I can show another example
I've founda link on
this project by an artist, Marina Gutierrez:

and clickon

There seem to have
hour lines, as describedon the forum below but not at the right position
!!!
Hello Doug
I think Alain gave you the best, see some of his realizations here :
http://perso.orange.fr/cadrans.solaires/cadrans/cadran-parc-ludiver.html
But you can also have a list on François Blateyron website :

Hope this helps
Hi John,
I agree with Chris but I
disagree with you, if you rotate the disk, this will make an
ellipse
It's too late here in
France to make a drawing, but I let you try.

I know this relation is validated :
sin (D) = tan (X) / tan (L)
D = wall declination
X = angle between the equinoctial line and an horizontal line
L = Latitude
