Having installed slide dimmers on all my lights in the house I got to thinking that doing the same to the turbine (drill) style mixer would better be able to control the vortex ect... by controlling the amount of source energy as well as lower the total electricity needed to do the job;

Actually Hakan, I thought you pretty much covered the topic for electric motors at a high level. For me, the AC vs. DC decision comes down to what each one is good at. I have some experience with the subject (and the electric vehicles and appliances from antique to modern to back that up).

Don't be discouraged. Small or fractional HP AC motors, 120 or 240V single phase, are cheap and easy to get on the surplus market. Keep the lead lengths short from the controller to the motor, and you'll be OK for most use. You can get away without an inverter duty motor. Places like
