I successfully pulled off Aleks Kac's two stage base process (eight gal batch)
and an elementary form of methanol recovery last night.
Granted the oil I started with was almost virgin oil, it titrated out at 1/4 ML
requiring only 3.75G per liter, normally you don't titrate for this process but

I have about 20 gallons of liquid glycerin and about 5 Gal. that gelled.

yes it is air tight. I haven't done methanol recovery on the glycerin and it
still has the naoh in it. I saw the five gallon methanol recovery still (for
glycerin) on journey to forever's site. but others say to leave the methanol
in to make a more flammable log. It also is still caustic.

If there's a tractor suply near you they sell 5 and 10 micron cartriges with
housing.
I got the see through one and hooked it up in line after my barell pump.
I backflush the filter by leaving some fuel in the line and cranking the
pump backwards.
make sure you let the BD settle
Sunflower oil has an IV of 133. This is even higher than soybean oil.
Polymerization concerns arise.
I am now looking for a sorce of good peanut wvo. peanut oil has an IV of 92
(sweet).
