DOE may be cutting the project because it is the wrong fit for Dr. Tyson's
research (developing new feedstocks). Perhaps USDA will pick it up?

First time, indeed! The animal in question was a downer and unable to
walk into the slaughterhouse, and the owner still tried to pass it off as
healthy? Can't wait to find how many more animals may have been destroyed
back at the farm.
I have to wonder how this news will impact

I agree with Curtis. Very interesting read, Keith.

There are very strict EPA rules about how biocides can be used in the
United States. The proper biocide for an application is dependent on how
the product was registered with the US EPA.There is a Kathon product
which can be used for industrial applications. I would suggest contacting
I agree with your observations about an absent enforcement mechanism for BD
industry in the US.
But I think that industry is heading that way. At the BD Research
Brainstorming Workshop this past Jan., NBB discussed their Biodiesel

Obviously, I buy into the idea that different labs may give different
glycerin results. In fact, sending biodiesel samples to different labs and
then back to the same lab for analysis and comparing results was part of
the marketing research we did for our new kit. And, yes, we did
I believe that the ASTM requirements don't stipulate how often you
have to do testing. The local (well sort of) WVO plant here in CA
(Imperial Western Products) sends out an analysis with every batch,
they're apparently a batch plant.
The most recent guideline that I have found for how
In general, all these tests are qualitative, not
quantitative. I am getting the feeling that the small scale
producers who want hard numbers will send their product to a
commercial laboratory for ASTM testing, instead of doing the
test in-house.
But I am very curious about the paper
Todd,
Thank you for your insight. And you are correct in that the
Sigma-Adrich kit is currently not accepted by ASTM. However
our preliminary validation data impressed NBAC, who is
currently sponsoring a nationwide validation for this kit
and have representatives to ASTM on their committee.
Dear Craig,
The cost for this product is $100.00/kit. The kit has
enough reagent to analyze 1 standard, 1 blank, duplicate
free glycerin and duplicate total glycerin samples.
There are volume discounts available with purchases of 20 or
more kits. If you will commit to a firm purchase order

Have any of you tried the new glycerin analysis kit from
Sigma-Aldrich? I am the project leader for this new product
and would like to hear some feedback, good or bad.
