Hi Benoit,

I'm very sorry to hear that.
To be honest we've never done remote presentations and because we already have
a tight schedule, I hope it is not too draconic to put you to the next meeting.
I'm juggling with lots of stuff which is different this time and I'm a bit
anxious to put more on my list which could fail :-/

I would be delighted if I could write you (hopefully soon) for a presentation
on SwiNOG #38 (whatever topic).

Besides the entry restrictions from Belgium the list is growing fast and just
today government announced that they will take further measures tomorrow. So
not even clear what will hit us in the face tomorrow.

Br
Simon

looks like there needs to be a new poll, because this one is broken. I
was also going to say "no", because the question looked like it was
asking about on-site meeting only.

why not holding a virtual meeting? I can provide my paid Zoom account.

Maybe 3-4 morning sessions, 2 hours each, would be a convenient format.

People be aware:

If you select "no" on the first page ("Would you like to have a..."),
then you do not get to chose the multi selector which has more useful
options:

- Remote: Join only if there is an remote / online session
- On-Site: Join personally on site I would not join online nor remote -
- I'll just watch the presentations and videos late…

- I am ok for on-site if COVID infection rates drop by this tim…

I think most people would have selected on of those options if they
could: 70% said 'no' now and did not get to be represented in the second
chart which skews the results quite a bit.

Also, keep that in mind when looking at the chart: 33 responses no,
while 10 of those could fill in the second chart, 23 did not get to see it.

I am good with remote session (though I tend to then just watch the ones
I am directly interested in to allow for questions/feedback, and watch
the rest at a later point).

Yes above is my problem but at the same time it can not be the reason for mail
delivery to bluewin.ch coming back with a cryptic DNSNULL
error

Spamhaus has a issue with a customer of mine but they have not shown any proof.
Above IP however is not in the disputed IP range, its my my well maintained
mailserver which has never sent any spam and is not listed as sending any spam
anywhere else. What Spamhaus is doing is trying to get ISPs to cancel contracts
with well paying customers on first call (no judge, no proof) by putting the
ISP's whole IP range into a blacklist (a /19 !) and thus punishing legitimate
3rd parties as well. This is called coercion (Nötigung) which is a criminal
offense punishable by law for up to 3 years in jail. We will see if Spamhaus
prefers to go to jal or change their blacklisting policy.

Never the less. Sending emailst o bluewin.ch has never
been affected. I sent emails successfuly yesterday to bluewin users without a
problem. I don't think Spamhaus's blacklist are being used by bluewin.ch
as otherwise we would have had issues a lot earlier.

So this doesn't explain any DNSNULL error. And frankly, the error message is
really stupid misleading...

Except that this is not applicable. In my case my mailserver is not hosted at
Swisscom but on my own infrastructure, is on the same IP since years, has
proper MX records and reverse DNS entries and has delivered email to the same
bluewin customer yesterday successfully. Only the reply on that receiver today
which I received and replied again got rejected. And the response is cryptic to
me.

And if you mail to ab...@bluewin.ch you get the same
error...

So who is this famous DNSNULL I should contact?

Thanks for your input.

Sounds very nice to us - but: we’re investing already a lot of time in managing
and organizing SwiNOG events.
Now with the Videos we’re investing again several hours on top of this
(cutting, adjusting tone, putting all together, upload, website, social media,
etc.).
If we add additional repositories that would mean that we have to manage more
on top.
And honestly we don’t have time for this :(
Remember: SwiNOG board is very small and has very limited resources and we’re
spending pure private time for this. There is no compensation for us at all
(except a yearly dinner).

Hope you understand our position.

greetings

-steven

How about also releasing/uploading the videos to

are there to be found.

I could make the necessary contacts for this, if you want.

They have a lot experiences with Long reach wifi...
2.) why not just a standard USV? Solar or Wind buffered... or is a normal power

Beer is a great topic! I have an alternative as well:

We usually have dinner in a Restaurant around the Roeschtibach
Hackerspace after the meeting. :)

Over the years the ML is slowly pacing down, likely having to do with
merging companies and people getting more busy with their private lives.

But if you like beer... http://www.beerontuesday.ch/ ;)

Different place(s), different beers, minimally different people as they
are more 'security' oriented, but same goals: better networking, good
talk and... well beer and other drinks ;)

I'm using it day in day out since 15 years. And theres no alternative to it for
me. The Sigtran family (SS7 signalling over IP) requires it mandatory. Theres
no other option there. SCTP was mainly developed because signalling over IP
needed reliable multipath support. So protocols which 100% depend on SCTP are
at least M2UA, M2PA, M3UA, SUA, IUA.

Great. why did you not use it? UDP is not a reliable datagram service. SCTP is.

WebRTC requires it (but can work around by encapsulating it into UDP which just
means more useless overhead).

> Apple chose to use Multipath TCP instead...

OS X has a implementation of SCTP since OS X 10.3.8. Its open source. Apple
has not added it to the kernel (besides promising it many many many times)
because it would mean changing their NAT & Firewall as well and as there is no
user demand, they where too lazy and rather wanted to spend time on nice shiny
guy stuff. The kext is kernel dependent due to a missing API to link in a
layer4 protocol so every new version needs awaiting new kernel sources to be
published and recompiling (10.12 however worked out of the box with 10.11
sources). I have like 20 radars open with Apple about it (*big sight*).

Linux has SCTP built in since a long time. Solaris, has it. HP/UX has it.
Windows I actually don't know.

Part of the problem is: If desktops don't have it, then developers don't tend
to use it. If developers don't want to use it, then the OS vendors dont tend to
implement it. This however also applies to other layer 4 transport protocol.
Thats why everyone uses plain old TCP and UDP.

Also 10$ crap ADSL routers who don't understand how to properly implement NAT
don't help either. Hopefully NAT will be a relict of the past soon due to IPv6
(*cough cough*).

Any application which uses TCP or UDP could be changed into using SCTP by a
single line of code. (hint: IPPROTO_SCTP on socket()) However there are
additional features which neither TCP or UDP have such as seamless adding
removing IP's on a established session, Multipath support. stream multiplexing,
concurrent establishment of a connection from both sides (think of tunnels for
example) and others. From a developers point of view there's a lot in it,
especially if you care about reliability. SCTP is proven, reliable, established
and well supported in the Unix arena. Developers just have to know about that
its there and it is useful for many things.

That's why I think the key is to let developers know that there's a cherry to
be picked up.
And I would be happy to present its benefits and features.

But if we only have java developers here who usually encode a boolean into a
UTF16 string into XML over SOAP over HTTP over a 10G fiber link, then it would
be a waste of time of course.

Is there any tool that actually uses SCTP ? :)

IPFIX is supposed to use it, but everybody still sends over UDP, rare
support for SCTP (except for purists like me who did implement it and
then also never really used it).

WebRTC is supposed to go partially over SCTP, never seen it actually used.

Apple chose to use Multipath TCP instead...

The article on Wikipedia does not list much more:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stream_Control_Transmission_Protocol

Apparently some variant of SSH should support it, but no actual
implementations mentioned there either.

I could do a presentation on the SCTP networking protocol which combines some
features of TCP and UDP and offers some unique features neither TCP nor UDP
have.

 Hi

Does someone have experience with configuring WCCP on a FortiGate firewall to
 enable WAN acceleration with CloudBridge?
The Config on the Citrix CloudBridge is simple, the config on the FortiGate
 is not so clear.

 Thx a lot!

True, but before this can happen, someone has to develope it
first. And that can lead to long and extensive discussions which
is best done with a beer and some good food. =:o)

But of course also mere user (like me) are welcome to the Debian

 Hi List

I'm trying to debug a fiber connection between two datacenters in
Zurich. Unfortunately the other companies involved are not very
responsive. And please bear with me, I am not a network engineer, I am
just the poor guy who got this thingie on his desk...

Here is what I am trying to achieve:

In each datacenter we got an Arista DCS-7050T-52 with each an SFP
1000BASE-LX which supports up to 10km links on single-mode and 550m on
 multi-mode fiber.

We got a 1Gbps dedicated Layer2 Connection incl. Managed Switch from
Init7. As far as I know, they are using Sunrise as partner to provide
the connection. We are connecting to a SMF with 1310nm.

If I put everything together, I still see a notconnect on the
 switchport.
Unfortunately the Platin support seems to be more like Bronze, we do
not get a proper response right now.

Currently I can't tell if there is something wrong within our setup or
within the setup of our provider.

I would like to get a third party with a proper testing device (and more
experience than me) to meet me in the datacenter(s) and help me to find
evidence what the heck is going on.

 Best regards,
 Andre Timmermann

 Hello Andr?

I'm trying to debug a fiber connection between two datacenters in
 Zurich.

We got a 1Gbps dedicated Layer2 Connection incl. Managed Switch from
 Init7.

As a first step you probably want to fact check if you have a
darkfibre, which might be measured with a power meter and/or OTDR, or
if you have a layer-2 service as you worte above.

A layer-2 service means there is some active gear (usually from your
service provider) in between you and the physical fibre between the
datacenters which they manage and therefore you can not optically
measure the line as a whole.

If I put everything together, I still see a notconnect on the
 switchport.

As a simple test: see if you see have no light (down/down) at both ends
of your connection. My guess: it's only at one end and you most probably
deal with a defective optic (GBIC/SFP) at some point...

Bottom line: most probably you will have to deal with your service
 provider.

 Good luck.

 Andr?,

We are investigating what went wrong. As far as I know this is a special
case and we are reselling a simple darkfiber of Sunrise (very uncommon),
and it seems that a ticket has been opened with Sunrise a while ago. As
it's a Layer-1 service we are unable to check the functionality.

 Hi there

does anybody have experience with mailserver migration and apple clients.
We have no changed the ip address of our mailserver - we have changed the A
Record from mail.xy.ch to a new IP.
Since then we've a lot of calls from clients which are unable to receive
 mails.

On the iPhones, the authentication option has gone!!. When the customer set
its back to password it's working again.
But I had also some OS X Mail which had the right settings, but didn't work.
I had to configure the account from scratch.

So it's defnitely an Apple Problem.

Does anybody now why this is not working or why the settings are changed from
 the device itselfs?

Re: [swinog] [swinog-antispam] Calling all stations!

2012-08-23 Diskussionsfäden Lukas Meyer (TSG Codebase)

Hello everybody!

Its been a while since the last activity on this thread, it was holiday
season. Im aware that this list is usually for admin purposes,
nonetheless I see some importance in this topic nowadays. And we have
something interesting to say about it. So Im taking the freedom to post
another commercial message on this.

I been in the hosting-market for 16 yrs now, mostly as an independent
and with pretty good projects. I saw the market go from diversivied into
a huge consolidation with a shrinking market volume. Nowadays I am the
head of Tecnostore Group (http://www.tecnostore-group.com), a small
company with about a dozen nerds in .ch and .in. TSgroup is selling its
own SaaS products at http://www.dasprivacy.com, but also provides
infrastructure, mostly as whitelabel to companies and some providers.
About a week ago we launched this services for the public at
http://www.cleartier.com (Our pages arent that gr8, but come on, v r
techies not designers)

The reason Im writing this is our cleartier architecture: We can run it
zone-based in multiple locations. Currently we have three zones: One in
Delhi, and two in Switzerland. Inside each zone we can put up small
virtual datacenters for our customers (up to 50 hosts, virtual. Physical
on Demand). This is very popular mostly with ISVs to run SaaS-Products.
As our business is picking up speed, we are looking for partners, and
like to present various business cases for people on this list.

For Hosting-Providers that are pretty small, and have other main revenue
streams (e.g. renting Broadcast Equipment):

- Bring down your cost by moving into the ClearZones Virtual Datacenter.
- Lower the administration footprint by leaving monitoring management
to us.

- Keep your brand and your customers by doing only first level billing.
- With the Physical to Virtual migration techniques, you can even move
your current setups into our virtual datacenter.
- If you want to migrate to a newer infrastructure, we can provide you a
up-to-date technology hosting setup (Ubuntu 12.04 based).

For Line-Access Providers, Datacenter Owners and such:
- As a Line-Access provider you can provide added value to your
customers by running a ClearZone Inhouse.
- We feature a lot of turnkey solutions and setups and we take over the
management.
- As a datacenter owner, you can provide a ClearZone with your overhead
hardware.
- We are looking to resell our services and some services of our
ISV-Customers through the channels of current ISPs.

So long story short: There are a lot of business opportunities also for
smaller providers, theres no need to make a frown guys.

You can reach us at:
- serv...@tecnostore-group.com
- 041 312 13 91 (Lukas Meyer, CEO)
- 041 312 13 92 (Peter Hethely, System Engineering)

We look forward to get in touch with you.

Regards

L. Meyer

Hello,
My office is two a small ISP. We have less than 50 Hostingclinets. If
we would have to live them we would have a problem. I think that we
will outsource somme service in the Future like e-Mail... etc.
We have beginn with the ISP Services in Year 1996. At this time was
the Price for a Hosting Fr. 80.-- or more. Today, you will pay for the
same Service by a Serferfarm for Fr. 5.-- till 25.--.
In fact. You make less money. And must pay more for the
infrastructure. I would also calculate a my work, then the loss would
be a lot higher. At the Moment we make the money with renting
Broadcast Equipment. The ISP Part will financed whit this buissness.

Thats is fact. And I don't think this will be better in the future.
Greetings Xaver

At my business' core, a remarkable web of ideas. Entirely founded

aiming for no less than total evasion from last-mile stranglehold

unhealthy dependencies in general while reaching far beyond just
telecommunications, into financial services and more. Much of this
glorious plan has been condensed down from my brains into a paper,
covering 86 pages A4 already. Some people would literally kill to
get their hands on those pages, they just don't know yet... But
gladly, there's no need to send a hitman! I'll let you read the
entire thing if you sign me an NDA or hire me on the spot.

Dear Lukas

I guess it's not a coincidence, that you're trying to sell something to
this list, just after the call for sponsors for SwiNOG 25 has gone out.

It's just that: Next time, please send your sponsoring application to
swinog-core, not to the technical discussion lists.

Kind regards,
Viktor

Hello everybody!

Its been a while since the last activity on this thread, it was
holiday season. Im aware that this list is usually for admin purposes,
nonetheless I see some importance in this topic nowadays. And we have
something interesting to say about it. So Im taking the freedom to
post another commercial message on this.

I been in the hosting-market for 16 yrs now, mostly as an independent
and with pretty good projects. I saw the market go from diversivied
into a huge consolidation with a shrinking market volume. Nowadays I
am the head of Tecnostore Group (http://www.tecnostore-group.com), a
small company with about a dozen nerds in .ch and .in. TSgroup is
selling its own SaaS products at http://www.dasprivacy.com, but also
provides infrastructure, mostly as whitelabel to companies and some
providers. About a week ago we launched this services for the public
at http://www.cleartier.com (Our pages arent that gr8, but come on, v
r techies not designers)

The reason Im writing this is our cleartier architecture: We can run
it zone-based in multiple locations. Currently we have three zones:
One in Delhi, and two in Switzerland. Inside each zone we can put up
small virtual datacenters for our customers (up to 50 hosts, virtual.
Physical on Demand). This is very popular mostly with ISVs to run
SaaS-Products. As our business is picking up speed, we are looking for
partners, and like to present various business cases for people on
this list.

For Hosting-Providers that are pretty small, and have other main
revenue streams (e.g. renting Broadcast Equipment):

- Bring down your cost by moving into the ClearZones Virtual Datacenter.
- Lower the administration footprint by leaving monitoring
management to us.

- Keep your brand and your customers by doing only first level billing.
- With the Physical to Virtual migration techniques, you can even move
your current setups into our virtual datacenter.
- If you want to migrate to a newer infrastructure, we can provide you
a up-to-date technology hosting setup (Ubuntu 12.04 based).

For Line-Access Providers, Datacenter Owners and such:
- As a Line-Access provider you can provide added value to your
customers by running a ClearZone Inhouse.
- We feature a lot of turnkey solutions and setups and we take over
the management.
- As a datacenter owner, you can provide a ClearZone with your
overhead hardware.
- We are looking to resell our services and some services of our
ISV-Customers through the channels of current ISPs.

So long story short: There are a lot of business opportunities also
for smaller providers, theres no need to make a frown guys.

You can reach us at:
- serv...@tecnostore-group.com
- 041 312 13 91 (Lukas Meyer, CEO)

Hello,
My office is two a small ISP.
Today, you will pay for
the same Service by a Serferfarm for Fr. 5.-- till 25.--.
In fact. You make less money. And must pay more for the
infrastructure. I would also calculate a my work, then the loss would
be a lot higher. At the Moment we make the money with renting
Broadcast Equipment. The ISP Part will financed whit this buissness.

Thats is fact. And I don't think this will be better in the future.

Dear Viktor,

1. I didnt want to sell something, i rather considered it an offer for
collaboration.
2. I only get the digest version of the mailing list, somebody else did
forward your msg to me. Usually I dont even have time to read them.
3. I know i fucked up sending the mail (it went to antispam too btw). No
need for RBL. The problem seems to sit in front of the machine today ;-)

About the sponsoring request: I honestly didnt hv a clue about that one.
But we consider swinog a good thing, and i will definitely look into it.

So thanks for the information, and please accept my apologies in case
anybody feels offended.

To submit a proposal for a presentation, we request that you provide the
following information to swinog-core at swinog.ch:

* the name of the presenter (and if applicable your affiliation)
* a working email address
* the name and number of the topic which will contain the presentation

I looked up 255E-13DQws specs on Acer web site, and it says 6-cell.

I bought previously a slightly different model at Interdiscount for

CHF299.-, and it had 6 cells.

I'll have a closer look when I pass by the M-Electronics shop next time.

Jeroen,

Of course BE100 is IPv6 capable! It is a core interface
and transports labeled packets...

You still need IPv4 for LDP:-)^H(

 PLANNED IP6.ARPA NAMESERVER CHANGE

This is a courtesy notification of an upcoming change to the
nameserver set for the IP6.ARPA zone.

There is no expected impact on the functional operation of the DNS
 due to this change.

There are no actions required by DNS server operators or end users.

 DETAIL

The IP6.ARPA zone is used to provide reverse mapping (number to
name) for IPv6, as described in RFC 3152. The servers which currently
provide authoritative DNS service for the IP6.ARPA zone are as
 follows:

 TINNIE.ARIN.NET
 NS-SEC.RIPE.NET
 NS2.LACNIC.NET
 SEC1.APNIC.NET
 NS.ICANN.ORG

On Wednesday 2010-12-01 processing will begin to change the nameserver
set to the following, as described in RFC 5855:

 A.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by ARIN)
 B.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by ICANN)
 C.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by AfriNIC)
 D.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by LACNIC)
 E.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by APNIC)
 F.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by RIPE NCC)

The usual IANA process for a change in the ARPA zone involves a
series of technical checks and the gathering of various authorisations,
and may take several days to complete. Courtesy notification will
be sent to this list once this change has been fully implemented.

 F.IP6-SERVERS.ARPA (operated by RIPE NCC)

The usual IANA process for a change in the ARPA zone involves a
series of technical checks and the gathering of various authorisations,
and may take several days to complete. Courtesy notification will
be sent to this list once this change has been fully implemented.

  hi,

I'm looking for a solution (standalone software or an outsourced
  service) with

  the following requirements:

-- Leased-line customers manage PTR records for their IPv4 and IPv6
 address blocks
-- They also manage A, AAA, and other possible records in their
 domains
-- Northbound system manages the customer accounts, their domains,
 and allocated

  IP address space
-- Scalability to 1 customer accounts

The system should require as little as possible manual interaction.

  Your suggestions will be appreciated.

 Linus,

It is not because ICMP does not reply that the server is down or having an
 issue :-)

Often it is blocked to avoid security risks or for other reasons... If you
check www.admin.ch, it won't answer ping but will work correctly. The only
way to know if the server work is to actually establish a proper connection
on the port 80 / 443 and make sure you get the content of the page you
 expected as you expected.

This is probably a matter of software issue (anything from loadbalancer, to
backend server daemon not working or any other error...).

 Cheers,

 Gregory

about raising again the fee, but we try to allow more than 100 people

by email. If we still don't get your payment a few days later your
registration will be dropped and you don't need to pay the invoice.

- Once we get your payment, you will receive a confirmation by email.
If you have paid and don't get a confirmation within 5-6 days, make
sure to bring a payment proof with you (we don't need a legal document,
a print screen of an online payment is fine).

- If you show up at the event without prior registration or payment,
you still have the possibility to join the event for 100 CHF, but
only if there are free seats.

- There is NO refund policy, but you may give your seat to someone
