Perhaps they're not currently looking at 5.0RC3. Lack of response often just
means lack of interest at the time you ask the question, nothing deeper than
that. Keep

Whether it's possible 'out of the box' or not (and I haven't had time to look
at your requirement in enough detail to be sure), it would very likely be
possible with a simple additional module. So I think Open ERP v5 would be one
possible answer
you can rename labels of work address to home address in employee form or just
create new module which will add home address field in employee form.

you can define sequence using xml file here is the example of sale sequence.
record id=seq_type_sale_order model=ir.sequence.type
field name=nameSale Order/field
field name=codesale.order/field
/record
record id=seq_sale_order model=ir.sequence
You can create a user with no menu access rights of partner.

I need to know a few basic questions about what this software can do. I've
tried playing with the demos but, in spite of selecting the CRM demo, I could
find nowhere to put customer details.
I would be very grateful if someone could answer these questions about
suitability for a service

@whouston,
glad to see people interested in that topic. OpenERP currently is not that far
from REST but it's not REST. It's not that far in the sense that:
* every business method + CRUD is allowed via webservice (XML/RPC)
* it is not bound to a session concept: so it will scale up like a REST
