Having the same problem in Edgy. Even root couldn't write CDs. But it
seems something (gnome?) is mounting blank images as well ( /dev/hdc on
/media/cdrom0 type iso9660 (ro,noexec,nosuid,nodev) ), thus umount
/dev/yourcdrwdevice fixed a problem for me.

the previous ubuntu version was not based on debian although there was
0.3.1-1 available since 8 Aug 2005. There's nothing special in the

Why not just make /usr/share/X11/fonts/ a symlink
to /usr/share/fonts/X11/?
It would make it simpler so that all fonts would end
up in the big fonts directory.

My wireless is an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG which works perfectly in my
dapper dist-upgraded to edgy. But in a clean Feisty (and edgy) there is
no life at all. But it shows up in lsmod - so what's wrong? I have a
