My understanding is the behaviour is correct: when 'cp' is copying to a
directory, it will copy *under* the target directory, not *over* it. So
it will start the copy and later it will notice it is copying
recursively -- and immediately stop.

I think formatting the device to clear off unwanted data is a bit of
overkill.
I think it would be more appropriate to show the same open button that
opens a nautilus window for the device all the time. It currently only
appears when it's necessary to delete files to make space for Ubuntu.

The issue here seems to be that you get the vesa driver loaded under the
new kernel, when you were using nvidia before.
It should be that dkms is building the new modules for you. If you boot
in to the new kernel and check /var/log/messages do you see any messages
from dkms?

When going for reboot or shutdown the system freezes on shuting down alsa.

You shouldn't need to compile the modules yourself, the virtualbox
package in intrepid uses dkms, a mechanism to keep the kernel modules
automatically updated. Can you try if this works? Just update to the
latest virtualbox package and try to run it.

Looks like udev doesn't like DEVTYPE, it's complaining at boot time ...
I'll have a look at a better way to fix it next week but we for sure need a fix
for Intrepid.

I have just finished testing this on a clean install of Intrepid Alpha
(loaded from Alpha 5 DVD) with all updates applied as of 9/26/08. I've
tried this with both the out of the box config and with options ipw2200
led=1 in /etc/modprobe.d/ipw2200.
Using the default config the WiFi LED never lit
