spins down regularly and then sounds like it is parking. It then spins
up after about a 1-2 second wait. This has only happened since Jaunty,

Well, since switching back to my .30 ultimate kernel from the .29-5

I like the generic approach. The user's first name, properly
capitalized, is a pretty good solution, as it's not misleading nor
cryptic. No unfamiliar terms whatsoever, and if their name is there,
then it must be their area. It's kind of intuitive.
It's also a nice bridge between the Windows
Some googleing turned up a module named cciss for SmartArray 5i controller.
but this is availeble in ubuntu kernel, so I would think mkinitramfs should
have included it.
If you are not even getting a grub screen you should reinstall grub,
google around on getting there.

For the beginners, you must install de linux-backports-
modules-distro and then modprobe lenovo_sl_laptop.
As reported, brightness control is still not working.
