I recently ran into this problem with an unencrypted DVD as well. I

aptitude install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
Which solved the problem. There was no need to uninstall any other
plugins, just install the ugly plugins. This is more a problem with the

I think including a Try to Copy option in the not enough space

audio e video don't work
the only walkaround I currently know is to use ndiswrapper with 2.6.32
kernel (there is another bug in Ubuntu, which prevents to use
ndiswrapper with the current kernel). You can find instructions for

Heads up for Karmic:
Currently it does not seem like we will be able to provide a stable release
update (which would become automagically available via the regular updates) for
karmic, since it appears more difficult to obtain a non-invasive patch for the
issue at hand than we originally
Same problem with spanish charset. I've reported this bug a couple of
years ago, but now I cannot find my initial report. Maybe is a regresion
or configuration problem.
